Nvidia Sheild - Closed Captions Issue

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

To start off, I'm only seeing this behaviour on the latest stable release of the Nvidia Shield app.

- When I go to enable CC it will come back with "Unable to load subtitle".
- I test on my phone, laptop, etc. It works fine, same channel, same everything.

Hi.  Is the phone transcoding while the Shield is direct streaming?  If you use Playback Correction on the Shield to cause transcoding, does it work then?

Play method is transcoding and subtitles do not load.

This is with Live TV?  What is the channel and source?

We have discovered there are certain types of closed captions that still do not work properly in some of the players.

Some channels are working I guess but the subtitles are way behind…

So I’m looking at a recording and subtitle won’t play, but on my iPhone it works.

Using an external player vlc, subtitles work.

These are actually closed captions from Live TV, correct?  As opposed to subtitle streams (srt, etc.) from ripped media.

Correct, Live TV and Live TV recordings.

CC works on the channels when viewing in a web browser. So this looks like it's the android client issue.

Hi.  Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Tried a few channels and CC doesn’t work but it also doesn’t display an error.

Hi, yes we've found there are some cases on android where Exoplayer does not detect closed captions, and we are looking into it. Thanks.
