V1.3.4 Visual seeking no longer works and sometimes crashes app

I have a UE43KU6510 running V1.3.4 on server V4.7.6.0. When visual seeking the first button press jumps the video forward and the progress indicator moves. Subsequent button presses do not jump the video forwards but the progress indicator does move. Sometimes (I haven't managed to pin down what actually does it) continuing to seek forward causes the App to freeze and no buttons respond. The only way out at this point is to use a long press on the back button to exit the App. The end of the video shows it freeze.

Hi, can you please provide server and any ffmpeg logs?  Can you please confirm if this is DirectPlay or HLS/Transcode in Stats for Nerds?

Hi, It's direct play so there are no ffmpeg logs. I rotated the logs then pressed play and started hitting the button. It skipped the video the first time only but the progress indicator moved every time. I did also note that the progress indicator seems to have a small bit chopped off the bottom which gets left behind when it moves, hope that makes sense. I repeated the test with debug on if you need it.

Can you please post the media info for that file?  I can't reproduce at the moment.

Does it happen with all files with DirectPlay, or just some?

The issue is apparent for all types of file MKV, MP4 and TS live TV recordings. Non of my files need any transcoding as my server isn't really up to it. Anychanges are made on import.

Is M: drive on the server local, or is it a mapped network drive?

Everything is local. M:\ is actually an 11TB Storage Spaces drive. everthing I could move off the SSD C:\ drive is on the M:\ drive. it's been like this for years.

I have the same problem after updating an app. Also on directplay, i tried hevc and h264 - result is the same. But i noticed that when i press "down" to show info, video instantly catches up to the progress indicator.

Did you try clicking the ok button on the remote when you were done with visual seeking?

Posted

When I click okay it pauses the video. However, if i just wait until the timeseek is gone, video jumps to it. So maybe this is not a bug, but just different behaviour. Before it immediately jumped to selected time when I scrolled back or forward. Now only after the timeseek is gone.

@Luke I have tried this and discovered that this is what crashes the App. The first time I pressed OK it jumped to the correct place in the video but the second time I skipped forwarded then pressed OK it locked up completley. It sometimes let me do this more than twice but always crashes eventually. Pressing the down button to bring up Info correctly jumps the video but if repeated the App again crashes. I can't be 100% sure but it seems that if you count to ten between button presses it works a bit better but does eventually crash. This seems to be an OSD issue as the playing of video is absolutly fine. The only current solution is to not use the skip function at all.

Is it possible to re-release V1.3.3 whilst this is being investigated? I am quite willing to swap between releases fo any testing to be done.

1.3.5 is up and has some fixes to the video OSD, so you could try that. Thanks.

@Luke When seeking the progress indicator now moves but I'm afraid the App still crashes. I have even tried pressing once and waiting for the OSD to go away but I can reliably see the app crash/freeze on the third press. Also the FFD is very jerky as it skips then pauses for a couple of seconds and plays.

Can you provide a sample video for testing? Thanks.

One bit of good news is that the new "Add home screen focus preview" option bug in that the bottom of the library labels can still be seen has been fixed.

I had to find a small enough file but all of my files of any format display the same issue. This is only 720p and most of mine are 1080p. Jerky behavior is slightly less on this file but it still crashes.

If you force refresh metadata, including images for a file, does it make any difference when you try playback and seek?

That file wasn't in my library until Luke asked for a sample. It is a series with a lot of Subs that I am using to test SubKiller. BTW I manually removed all subs before importing to my library and test playing.

I just tried a refresh anyway and was somewhat surprised to see that it seemed to work, however on about the fifth skip the video froze but the audio continued for about 30 seconds before it all froze.

I know you're not going to like hearing this but the issue is more likely related to the way the tizen video player is handing the file and not related to the user interface that Emby is putting on top of it.

😀 I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that the tizen vido player is a piece of sh*te. If I put one of the files on a USB and tried to play direct on the TV would that be a reasonable test, I suspect not really as I have seen others try this A/B comparison.

I would say that the V1.3.3 app worked perfectly on my model in all respects and I would be very happy if that version could be rereleased.

Generally , if it works on USB then we can make it DirectPlay. You just need to give us a sample as the app might need an adjustment to add the support.

I've just tried this file using a USB stick and it plays perfectly. Even the FFWD works with no glitches

Can you please play this with the app, then send me the ffmpeg logs for the server for the playback. This will help us to know why it wouldn’t DirectPlay. Thanks

Hi @SamES it is direct playing so no transcoding logs.

I've just tried turning off all transcoding options for this user (TV) just as a matter of interest but it still locks up
