Hi,

When playing AVI files MPEG4/Xvid Codec on a Google TV, the stream freezes at exactly 35:47 every time. If played into the time the picture seems to "fast forward" but the audio still plays correctly. Of you attempt to skip past 35:47 the stream is completly frozen and there is no audio. This happens locally and via emby connect (tested with 4 different Google TV's in 4 different locations) and is only an issue when using playback on the Emby App using Google TV, the files stream correctly on my Windows PC. The issue seems to be specific to AVI files MPEG4/Xvid codec as I cannot replicate the issue with any other file type. I do not wish to convert all of my file types away from Xvid as it will be a very long and painstaking process. I also need to note that this only seems to be a more recent issue, I (and 3 other users) have been using the Google TV for quite some time, I only first encountered it at the beginning of July 2022.

I am using Emby Server on QNAP. Server is up to date with latest version. Emby app and the Google TV are up to date with latest version.

The files are not transcoding (as far as I am aware) and no amount of fiddleing with the transcoding options has solved the issue. Throtteling is off.

I have tried factory resetting the Google TV to no avail.

I have heard word but not confirmed that this issue is also happening with the Nvidia Sheild.

Hi.  If you use the "Playback correction..." menu option during playback, does that fix the problem?

Hi ebr,

Yes, once selecting "playback correction" even in the first few seconds of playback the stream seems to have no issues and passes right by the 35:47 issue, although I have not been able to let the file play through in its entirety yet. Is this the only fix for this issue at this time? Is there a native fix being worked on?

Thank you very much for your help

Hello Everyone,

I am having the exact same issue on a Chromecast device running the Emby app from the Google Store. Every single AVI file with the format MPEG4/Xvid have this EXACT same symptom. Hitting the playback correct changes the video to HLS and H264 and it then plays fine for the entire video.

Thoughts on whats causing this? How can we troubleshoot this and find a solution?

Thanks

Hi.  Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Hi, I've been having this problem for around 3 months on my Sony Bravia TV.

I've forced the app stop, and have cleared the cache and data, and checked for updates (running 2.0.83g).

I can see a couple of suggestions to sideload the app but no instructions on how to do that.

Can anyone help because this is getting frustrating.

Thanks, I'll look into it. Has anyone confirmed that sideloading the app fixes the bug?

Having this issue with a friend who has a fire TV.  Telling me to tell them to sideload the other app is a no go as they are about as smart as a bag of hammers.  How is it possible that this bug still exists almost a year after it has been found?

AVI is an archaic container and there are some real issues with it.  They are hard to address because no one in their right mind would be creating new content in that container so many of the tools don't see it as much.

The latest beta version of the TV app does work around this specific issue though.
