TolkienBard 58 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 I did a search and came across this older thread, but was unable to find any solutions that would address the problem I am having. I am experiencing thin diagonal green lines across the screen when I attempt to play back a 4K HEVC HDR10 title. Here are the details for the Fire TV stick: Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen) Fire TV software version: Fire OS 7.2.9.2 (PS7292/2982) Fire TV Home Version: 6390026.1 I have attached the transcode logs for the attempts to play and the server log that covers the period in question. The only thing I can figure is that the stick is unable to handle this 4K content, but I am fairly certain it has streamed 4K content in the past. I am looking into that now, but as I said, it seems unlikely that the stick has never been tasked to stream 4K in the last few years. TolkienBard 58 Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 There is no live TV or scrambled signal at work here. Furthermore, when I went and made a 1080 stream available, the Fire TV Stick had no issues with playing it, giving me even more reason to believe the issue has something to do with the stick accessing a 4K media file and not knowing what to do with it. Others have successfully accessed the file and managed to enjoy it just fine. My own Fire TV 4K+ max out in the common room had no issues with it either. Though, I tend to not use that as much of a tester, simply because it is hooked up to the robust home network and can more directly access the material than the stick at my brother's place.

softworkz 5066 Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 (edited) My suspicion is that it is due to the unusual dimensions of the video: 3840x2080 which is then scaled down to 1992x1080. Edited August 29, 2022 by softworkz
crusher11 1101 Posted August 30, 2022 Posted August 30, 2022 No, because we established it also affects SD video. The issue is not present in the standard Android app.
TolkienBard 58 Posted August 31, 2022 Author Posted August 31, 2022 I don't know anything about the previous tests. All I know is that when I created a 1080 file, he was able to stream it flawlessly. If it is a transcoding problem, is there a way to address it? I would really rather not create a 1080 stream for every 4K title I add, especially given how many titles are being released in the higher definition these days.

TolkienBard 58 Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 Well, despite numerous attempts to get the streams to work, I continue to have the issue. At this point, it seems it might be easier just to buy everyone using the server an updated Fire Stick. I'd upgrade the server to fix the issue, but I don't see where there is a hardware solution that would fix the issue. Thanks for at least helping me pin down what to look for in the 4K films so that I can go into preparing them with a heads-up!
