Jägs 85 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Greetings: My Nvidia Shield is acting up, and given that it is overdue for a product update, I wanted to make due with with what I have on hand, so I tired my TiVo 4K Stream. I use these with Emby on all of our other TVs, but the one with the Shield is our only 4K-capable TV and Atmos sound system. Anyway, I fired it up and it played everything up to 1080P just fine, but with 4K UHD rips (MKV), I'm getting a direct-play error which is causing transcoding. I've reviewed the ffmpeg log (attached), but can't seem to discern what is going on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! ffmpeg-remux-2c885117-3527-463e-b6c8-f09cd06da0ba_1.txt embyserver.txt
ebr 16184 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Can you please play that item for a few seconds and then follow the instructions to send a log from the app?
Luke 42078 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 One more request. Can you also sideload our standard android app on the same device and let us know how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks !
Jägs 85 Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 @ebr Sorry about that! I'm used to working this from the server side that I didn't know there were client-side debugging options. I think I sent a log: Exactly what you were doing and what happened. Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem I was playing a 4K UHD rip of Blade Runner 2049. The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5) approximately 21:03 ET (20:03 CT) The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time The name of the user is "movies." @LukeI'll give that a try and report back.
Jägs 85 Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 So, the standard Android app downloaded from your website does direct play, so it looks like the problem is with the Play store app and the TiVo. That said, like the one from the Play store, the playback of Blade Runner 2049 is messed up, though. I originally attributed this to the transcoding and some issues with the HDR—it basically looks like it has a green/black negative overlaid on the film. This does NOT happen with other 4K UHD rips. I'll try to reconnect my Shield to see if it has issues on that device, but I do not recall it having any problems. NOTE: I see the same issue when I try to play the movie on a screen without HDR. Do the logs I submitted indicate anything that may help diagnose that particular playback issue?
Luke 42078 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Regarding blade runner, can you please try this version of the android app: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u1obwrckg4lkjc8/emby-android-google-armeabi-v7a-release.apk?dl=0 And then provide a log from the app by following these instructions: Thanks !
ebr 16184 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Hi. Does this device actually support TrueHD audio? When you played with the standard app, did you get TrueHD at your receiver or just stereo? In the TV app, if you disable the option to allow TrueHD pass through, does the item play properly?
Jägs 85 Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 I've been digging around on the TiVo Community and haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I think I have passthrough enabled and I do have the "Enable Dolby 7.1 channel Passthrough" checked—though I'm not sure exactly what that does beyond what it says—and my and my sound bar does support TrueHD: https://www.lg.com/us/sound-bars/lg-sp8ya-sound-bar# I'm not sure how to tell if it is getting the TrueHD, though, as it only has a simple display and the app does show it, either.
ebr 16184 Posted August 27, 2022 Posted August 27, 2022 In the playback settings in the TV app, is there a checkbox to allow TrueHD pass through? If so, please try disabling it.

Jägs 85 Posted August 28, 2022 Author Posted August 28, 2022 (edited) I did and had the same result. I hooked up my Shield again, and didn't have any problems. More importantly, my soundbar displayed "Dolby Atmos" when playing Blade Runner 2049, so I suspect there is an issue with the TiVo Stream 4K when it comes to TrueHD as well as an HDR issue that the Shield doesn't have—the only change I made hardware wise was swapping out the TiVo with the Shield and using the previous HDMI cable (the TiVo is a dongle, with the HDMI cable built in). If I get a chance, I'll hook up the TiVo again and submit an error log. For now, I still with the Shield and hope a replacement comes out soon. As always, thanks for your assistance!
