VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Some files don't play without transcoding on my Android TV (Bravia). The same files do however play on VLC. I sent a log from the app at 3:10/3:11 eastern time from the user profile 'Tessy'. I also included server logs. Why is transcoding triggered? The client only says 'Direct Play Error'. embyserver (5).txt
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 This is the video file I tried to play. Default android app gives the same behavior.
ebr 16176 Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 Hi. The attempt to direct play it failed so it is falling back to transcoding. How was the item created?
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 I don't know how it was created. Do the ATV-app logs show the reason why it failed?
ebr 16176 Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 It is a fairly generic "Source Error". I'm guessing it is something in how it is encoded that is unexpected and is then corrected by ffmpeg when transcoding.
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 It happens with many HEVC files... What could be wrong?

ebr 16176 Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 Already tried that. It's definitely better, but still doesn't play everything an external player plays. This particular file also doesn't direct play on the app.
VirulentPip 93 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) Seems mostly like the issue I've had for months with the Firestick App.. The native app thinks device cannot play HEVC 10Bit files. 8bit work fine and sideloaded Android app is fine. Edited August 26, 2022 by VirulentPip
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 You're right. It happens mostly with 10 bit
VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 (edited) This one plays fine, however... Edited August 26, 2022 by VictorPeeters

VictorPeeters 3 Posted August 27, 2022 Author Posted August 27, 2022 Wow. What version is this? It doesn't have the issue, and it works better than the version I had. Are the logs still useful if this version resolves my issue?

We'll get the version you have released to the store as soon as we can. Thanks.
