Well, making it a paid plugin could solve two problems a) it covers cost and b) usually payment providers only let through adults. For a free demo-mode you could serve blurred covers.

Aside from that, if you decide to give the project up, it would be nice to be able run this locally, or get access to the db, so someone could merge that into an existing or new project at some point.

The database is over 300 GB currently.

One solution would be to alter the plugin to work as invite only, but I am still obligated to check ages using the standard they require.

Paypal users have to be minimum 18 years old so that's a possibility, make a small contribution via that, as that would be a way to verify the age.

I don't have time at the moment to sort this out this month, but it's a possibility.

I think the best way to keep the plugin on is for pay it? That's a good idea. It helps you a little bit with your cost and time!?

Would Paypal payment for verification then a unique Personal Access Key for each paid user work? That way the ADM plugin alone wouldn't have any restricted content at all.

I would also say I'm in for paying a fee for this, my collection has gotten absurdly large and I just started scraping with tinymediamanager to create NFO files for the metadata, its going to take forever.

The plugin was working great up until it was disabled, no real complaints about it.

The problem I have is that currently I have no real time to update the plugin, i.e. make the required changes - and everything else I would have to do.

However, that's not the only issue for me in order to comply.

My current web server that was up an running (now turned off) was ignoring the htaccess files and allowing crawling of the site.  So that needs updating too, direct access cannot be allowed under the law changes, because everything could be bypassed and viewed.  I have to reinstall the server, reconfigure the site and change the way the plugin accesses the data so that it has to use the "key" to be allowed to access the data. 

My current server is an ix systems truenas core.  It was already a real pain in the ass to setup.  So what i need to  do is find a "pre configured" server image such as a linux distro thats designed to be a pre setup web server, even before the rest of it.  I would prefer a windows server because then all the needed programs and scrapers could run on it too.  But then..... I have to move all the files from where they are...

The job of complying is quite a bit more involved just because of making sure that it cannot be freely accessed.

I will do it, but it will take me a while to get it sorted, mainly because i have next to no free time at the moment.

After taking some legal advice, this is even worse than this.

Using PayPal is not good enough under UK legislation.  I have to use a service such as yoti face recognition, there are others, these have monthly subscription plans or per user charges.  It doesn't end there, according to them I am not exempt at all regardless of what others tell me, I am totally liable.

If someone reports their child saw adult content originated from me I can be sued, even if they did or not.  So if someone thinks fast buck to be made here and sues then I am in a world of hurt unless I have followed the guidelines exactly .

To do this I have to secure my server, add an age check function then an access method that uses encryption so it cannot be bypassed by a clever kid or bad actor.

If I am to return service to ADM I have to cover all bases or accept the risk that I can possibly loose everything ....

The easiest decision is to give up,  the other is a big hassle...

What other apps are people using to retried and update metadata/posters for this content?  I'm trying to use adult media manager but struggling with setting it up to work with embys formats.

At the moment, it's going to stay offline.

I am still learning the c# code needed if I were to make the changes.  I also need to setup another server because this one just won't do as it's told, or lock down the folders do they cannot be browsed.

At the moment I don't have any free time to get it done because I have over a dozen other projects to finish that I don't have time to do either.

Life is getting the way!

This would be great.  
300GB are really not very much to handle really and there is folks in other jurisdictions who can easily take over.

I agree. @mickle026, maybe you can just dump the database in a filesharing site, or a torrent - there should be no legal ramifications but someone who knows better can confirm, and make the code open source or share here - no need to clean things up or spend time on it.

Are there any plans to resurect this? The idea of running it locally would work for most people who want to do this, but how would the database get updated?

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind it without the database. Just upload the title links to grab the metadata, images, etc then populate into Emby directly or start a new database from there. 

Maybe that's the one way @mickle026to circumvent all the requirements?

I cannot see this getting re-enabled anytime soon.  There are too many laws to follow here in the UK,  we have to not only prove you are 18 but have a back trace that tokens and Oath verifications were used and with everything off as default and enabled only by the user.  For a free service it just isn't viable, and if i host somewhere outside the jurisdiction, English laws still implement me as the host (so still prosecutable), so its not going to happen soon, besides I don't have the skillset to put this toolchain together even if it were paid.  And the paid option even if its only to pay the verification fee of an online age verifier system opens up a whole new can of worms, because then i am reselling other peoples copyrighted data, ie posters and overviews/synopsis (the rest is ok legally)....

Its a legal nightmare which regardless of anyone's opinion on here, that i am not willing to risk for myself and my family.  Having the data and providing publicly it is two different things.

It is a real shame because this worked well for a few years and was probably the best there was for some of that time.

Currently no, but maybe in the future, the reason its a no for now is that its too complicated right now.  My old website is zst tarballed at the moment on a rdp client which I don't have access to at present.  Its also 657GB, which is huge when it comes to decompressing , sorting, torrent-ing etc.  I know there are over a million files in the directory you want alone.

When i am sorted as linux is brand new to me, I will look at it again.
