kaj 316 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 As I will now be living in a location remote from my NAS, where the internet may not always be stable, is there a way to get my Synology to update Emby using the manually downloaded spk (using Download Manager on the remote NAS), rather than downloading the spk on my remote computer then having Package Manager wanting to upload that spk to the remote NAS for installation? Thanks for any advice.
FrostByte 5392 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 No, I haven't, but it looks like you should be able to download it with something like Download Station directly to the NAS. I'll give it a shot. I know there's a new beta rolling out soon. I've always done something like kaj does and downloaded it my Windows machine and pointed Package Center to that location for installing. The best solution I would think would be to ask Synology to enable automatic updates from the store. That would be stable releases though
kaj 316 Posted August 15, 2022 Author Posted August 15, 2022 Thanks @FrostByte. It's no problem for me to use Download Station to get the spk, but whenever you try to choose a directory to update the package in Package Manager, it will ask for a folder on the computer you are using, so the remote one...you can't select a location on the remote NAS. 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Ahh, that's true for some reason PC doesn't like local folders
Solution kaj 316 Posted August 15, 2022 Author Solution Posted August 15, 2022 Ok, I worked it out Download the package using Download Station to a location on the remote NAS. SSH in and run: sudo synopkg install <package.spk> Bingo, all updated 1
Audiomixer 374 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Can you believe i use my iPad for this? I download the emby server update to my ipad icloud drive, then log into my remote nas using synology quickconnect. Then go to packages as usual and update emby pointing to the file on my ipad. Works like a charm. 1

Of course if internet is really slow, i can see the advantage of what you are doing. On edit. A genuine @FrostByte tutorial would be great. Edited August 15, 2022 by Audiomixer
FrostByte 5392 Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 (edited) Ok, I'll get this up in the guide section tonight after I finish watching The Gray Man. I just did this with today's beta. It will be using Download Station and Windows Terminal/Powershell as ssh client to remote in, but people other OS like Mac can just use whatever tools like. Edited August 15, 2022 by FrostByte 1

Yes, moving to a remote location, having to rely on 4G, I'm worried that if there is an interruption to the upload process, things will get messed up. This way will hopefully stop any updating problems.. (Addicted to beta releases... ) 1

Yup, worked perfectly for me too, using Bitvise SSH
