Use VLC with NVidia Shield

In an attempt to get around the inability to jump thru videos with Emby any longer, specifically for HEVC 4k content, I am trying to get VLC working.  Switch to use an External Player.  When I launched the first video I couldn't accept one of the prompts either way because the buttons weren't highlighted so clicked OK on the remote and it went to the next one.  When I try playing a basic video I get:

 

Then click VLC and get

 

Then 

 

Any thoughts?

Did you try it with Pass Direct Path checked?
