Differences between the apps

Hi, I would appreciate an explanation.
I'm trying to understand why there are so many differences between versions of emby.
Huge differences between emby windows \ theater and emby andorid tv
I guess there are more and more differences between other apps versions.

Why not create a 1 interface that will be embedded in all versions.

Hi, can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and let us know how that compares?

Thanks.

Yes, but Luke, that's not the point,
The point is, isn't one interface better for all devices?
So many versions, so many changes...

That is the argument that is so often seen in streaming discussions that it is almost redundant. However I do not agree because that means that all interfaces would behave like the lowest common denominator among them. That is no interface can take advantage of the best that is offered on each platform unless all the interfaces can do whatever is being discussed.

I do not agree that any interface should be rendered brain dead just because some other interface or some other programmers can't perform the desired functionality.

In fact I believe that trying for "sameness" in interfaces assures that no interface can become truly great. It is like teaching to the level of the dumbest kid in class simply assures that the smartest will not reach her/his potential.

Personally I feel that overall Emby is quite similar across platforms. In many cases too similar.

I don't agree with you at all.
I'm not talking about the potential of each device.
I mean the interface or rather the visual interface.
For example :
On Android TV, when you choose or scroll between the contents, around the rectangle of the poster image (movie, series, whatever) there is a green color that marks the selection.

And Emby Theater doesn't have it

In my opinion, this is a feature that should be in all emby interfaces on all versions

There are many more such small examples

Hi.  He was addressing exactly your point.  The app he pointed you to runs on an Android TV device and presents the exact same interface as Emby Theater.  That is the direction we are heading (as much as possible across disparate platforms).

There is also a matter of conformity with interface standards which may be expected or even imposed on all apps by some devices (the Roku comes to mind especially).

In reality Mobile, Desktop, and TV are all different environments and will not be the same.

In ET if you are going to Zoom the card why would I want a colored border also (TV Mode)?  But it depends on the Display Mode you are in as in Desktop mode you don't have zoom, so card has border.

The growing pains Android users see right now it Emby trying to unify Android clients into one.

Again, I disagree.
You are still missing the point.
There is a visual difference and features and choices between the interfaces that are adapted to any other operating system.
To this day I used emby theater on Windows or LG webos. Matching is almost exactly the same interface and options.

I purchased nvidia shield pro tv according to The community recommendation to enjoy the highest quality of the content. I installed emby on it.

And I must say that the selection, display and appearance options available in Emby Android TV are much more varied than Emby Theater.

So in conclusion, in my opinion emby android tv is the best interface. And it has the best and most complete user experience

Here the question arises why not integrate everything that is in emby android tv in emby theater windows\lg webos

See here for information surrounding the Android TV app vs. the Standard Android app.

This has already been going on for nearly 2 years now and there's no sign of the Standard Android app being anywhere as good as the Android TV app.

Some things are slightly better, but mainly not so.

Like ebr mentioned that is the direction they are going.  There's already a very long discussion of things users would like in the standard Android app which are already in the Android TV app.  You're welcome to join the discussion and add something to the list if you wish.

I don't have an LG TV, but every time they add something to the standard Android app it seems to be added to Xbox and Samsung apps at the same time.  So, it appears to be beneficial to all client apps.

First of all I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that

I think it probably needs to be there as an option because the zoomed poster is not always very obvious - especially if you look away from the screen and then back at it.  Your eye has to hunt around for the one that is (slightly) larger instead of immediately snapping to an item that looks very obviously different (is highlighted).

I know this is the thousandth time I'm asking...
And I know I already opened a topic about it

But please please!
Implement the display from right to left in Android TV, please.
