EkoOne 5 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Since updating to v4.7.6.0 playback of movies (SD, HD, UHD) randomly stops with no option to resume playback even though the movie has not completely played. I thought perhaps it was a one-off corrupt file but it happens with every movie I try and with every device be it a laptop, phone or TV/Roku. Very frustrating. This has never happened before and I've not changed any settings in months so I'm at a loss.
Luke 42077 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 @EkoOne Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
EkoOne 5 Posted August 10, 2022 Author Posted August 10, 2022 Ok. From a safety/security standpoint is there any info in the Emby log that should not be posted publicly? For example, an IP address etc.

adkeyz 2 Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 @Luke I'm having a similar issue, playback will stop after a few minutes when using Safari. All other browsers work fine but I prefer to use Safari for it's PiP mode. Problem happens every time on all media. Emby then marks the item as played, almost as if it just skips to the end of the media. It started happening a couple of weeks ago, I have wiped the Mac and done a clean install of MacOS Monterey and the issue persists. 1
EkoOne 5 Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 @Luke An update: Like @adkeyz I use Safari (currently v15.6) exclusively with Emby and the situation has somehow gotten worse rendering Emby unusable with Safari. I started using Firefox (v103.0.2) and so far no random quitting issues but some "hanging" with 2K .mkv files, though .mp4 seem to fare better, i.e. no hanging. Clearly Safari and Emby are not playing nicely.
adkeyz 2 Posted September 26, 2022 Posted September 26, 2022 (edited) @Luke This is still an issue. MacOS Monterey recently got a small update along with an update to Safari (Now v16.0) and the issue still persists. Edited September 26, 2022 by adkeyz
adkeyz 2 Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 @Luke I have also just tried this on my Macbook Air, same OS version and same Safari version, same playback issue. Any update on a fix?
cp41 42 Posted October 8, 2022 Posted October 8, 2022 I am glad I found this thread, to know that I am not alone. I have found this to be the case with using Safari. Playback stops abruptly and the file is marked as complete. I have not experienced this using alternate browsers (Brave) or any of the apps. In the meantime, I have switched away from using Safari.
cp41 42 Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 I just checked this morning and encountered the issue. I have not yet upgraded to 4.7.8, but I didn’t see anything in the release notes addressing this specifically. I have been using Brave instead and haven’t had any issues. So it isn’t a major inconvenience (for me), but it does still exist for Safari.
Luke 42077 Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Ok if you could try again with 4.7.8 that would be helpful. Thanks.
cp41 42 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 I updated Emby to 4.7.8 and the problem persists with Safari.
kaynemo 13 Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 (edited) I also see this behavior no matter the browser UPD. Nothing in the logs. Just states the fact that the playback has stopped UPD1. I think I might have found a culprit - in my case Selecting "Hardware transcoding" to "YES", instead of Advanced, therefore turning off VidToolbox fixes the problem Edited November 11, 2022 by kaynemo

tegeril 0 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 (edited) I've just started seeing this happen in Safari and I'm running 4.7.10.0 on an M1 Mac mini with the Apple Silicon build. I hadn't experienced this previously running 4.7.8.0 or before. The computer that sees playback abruptly end is running macOS Ventura and Safari 16.1. My hardware transcoding setting is already set to YES and this is still occurring. tellaflix 0 Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I am having this issue also. Good to know it's Safari related. Is a fix being worked on? Ventura on Intel.
rootbeerdan 7 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I am also seeing this as well on Safari, transcoding or direct play. I wonder if it has to do with iCloud Private Relay? I'm also running Caddy as a reverse proxy so it's possible that might be screwing things around as well.

Have you tried disabling it for testing purposes?
tegeril 0 Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I do not and have not had private relay enabled, so it's not that for me.
tegeril 0 Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 This problem continues to occur with 4.7.11.0 fwiw. The latest time it happened to me in testing gave me 2 minutes and 29 seconds of playback before stopping.
RobbyBobby 17 Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Another "me too post" I'm afraid. My set up is very simple with nothing being online. It may be worth noting that the same thing happens with the Emby Player.
