moviefan 187 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Since Win7 support has officially been killed off with Emby I am considering migrating to Win10 or 11 for my Emby install. I would like to try and prevent losing any data/functionality as part of this upgrade. I run backups regularly with the server configuration backup app and these are stored off system on my NAS. I presume this will restore all of the played states. What else do I need to be concerned about in a migration? What about collections? Is there some way to ensure I don't lose all of these? Please let me know of any other thoughts or considerations.
GrimReaper 4748 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 (edited) Hey up, You might wanna take a look at KB article: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159936-configuration-backup If you still have any queries afterwards, do post them here. Do you store NFOs/Artwork with your media? Cheers Edited August 10, 2022 by GrimReaper
moviefan 187 Posted August 10, 2022 Author Posted August 10, 2022 Thanks for the reply. NFOs/Artwork stored with the media. Learned this lesson many eons ago. Collections however I know are a completely different beast. Despite trying to store these locally Emby has not accepted this for years. I really don't want to have to rebuild all of them. Is there some mechanism to ensure I don't have to rebuild?
GrimReaper 4748 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 (edited) Collection info is stored as <set> node in item NFO. If Emby is writing those NFOs you should have no issues recreating those collections when NFOs get read. Edit: To preserve current collections artwork, make a backup on install-dir\programdata\metadata\collections folder which you would manually revert once new server is up.
