What is the purpose of "Play next episode automatically" option?

In Settings -> Playback there is an option called "Play next episode automatically". What does it do exactly? Next episode of tv series plays automatically even if it is off.

I use rclone mount with full cache mode for media. If I resume playback with that option turned on, I get playback error. But if I turn it off, it plays just fine. Direct stream. Latest emby server on ubuntu.

Actually, I suspect you are seeing something that irritates me, though I've never reported it.

If you go to an episode's details screen and start it from there, or start it from the episode list for a season, or even start it from "Next Up", then the switch determines whether the following episode will play automatically.  However, if you go to the series screen and press play, then it will start with the next unplayed episode, as expected, but then continue after that regardless of the setting.

It might be kind of logical that playing "the series" must mean bingeing the whole thing regardless, but for me it's unexpected behaviour.

Hey luke, is it going to work like how "skip intro" works. As soon as the into hits it skips it. It would be sweet if as soon as the credits hit it skips them to the next episode automatically without clicking "next episode"
