justinrh 260 Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 I recently turned on thumbnails for a library via: The question is, if I don't want to use thumbnails anymore, will just changing this to "Never" disable the thumbnails as if I never ever had them? Is there anything else to do? Do they persist for existing videos and will still be used in the player? PS I find the UI a little awkward. I think it would be more understandable to have an on/off switch. If on, you get options; if off, then it is totally off.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 If changed back to never will only apply to newly imported media, it will not remove from existing media. You have to manually delete bif files it stored with media or via /metadata/library. 1
justinrh 260 Posted July 12, 2022 Author Posted July 12, 2022 (edited) So, to make some deductions, if Emby can't find BIFs then it doesn't try to use thumbnails. There is no on/off in the app to control thumbnails. And, the only way to not show thumbnails is to delete the BIFs. Are those three deductions correct? Edited July 12, 2022 by justinrh
justinrh 260 Posted July 13, 2022 Author Posted July 13, 2022 This is what happened after I deleted the BIF. Will this correct itself?
Happy2Play 9783 Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Not positive if you have to Refresh the media or just scan. But this is common across the board as the database is still looking for the previous files you deleted.
Solution justinrh 260 Posted July 13, 2022 Author Solution Posted July 13, 2022 3 hours ago, justinrh said: thumbnails as if I never ever had them? So the answer to this question is: Disable thumbnails in the library, then delete all the BIFs for the affected library (not easy if using the default storage location), then refresh the metadata. Now I know more than the Emby folks 1
