ManuJapan89 2 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Hi, i've just decided to try out emby while plex is still in running on a windows 10 machine, the idea is to run both in the same machine an i5 8th Gen with 16 GB of RAM i've a quite big anime library near 40.000 episodes for about 1500 series i have a few question if i can ask, on plex if a file is deleted or unavailable is marked as trash(red recycle bin icon) but it dont disappear in library, as test i delete a file where emby was looking, it disappear on library. is it the default behaviour? i create a anime library with just 236 folder(1,8 TB, the total would be 11 TB) after 6 hour it has not finished scan media and load metadata yet...is super slow compared to plex, again is this the default behaviour? there's no a dashboard like plex where you can see exactly what is doing now? anyway for me it's important that a video in library don't disappear completely if miss on disk, just because if it is marked as unavailable i can have a quick view on what is missing i have 4 external disks attached to the windows machine, can happen that a disk detach... is not so uncommon run emby and plex together will lead to a more usage or external disks too? i mean, they will spin up more frequently? Let me know and many thanks in advance for the help

Yes. 7 minutes ago, ManuJapan89 said: i create a anime library with just 236 folder(1,8 TB, the total would be 11 TB) after 6 hour it has not finished scan media and load metadata yet...is super slow compared to plex, again is this the default behaviour That's depending on the number of files, but yes, initial scan can take some time. 8 minutes ago, ManuJapan89 said: there's no a dashboard like plex where you can see exactly what is doing now? Nope, only log wold show that, hopefully that functionality be added eventually. 10 minutes ago, ManuJapan89 said: anyway for me it's important that a video in library don't disappear completely if miss on disk, just because if it is marked as unavailable i can have a quick view on what is missing There's several topics regarding disconnected/unavailable media and handling of it, @Luke might give you some insight there whether default behaviour will be changed/appended at some point in the future.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 I started with Plex way back when Emby was MediaBrowser. I really liked Plex at that time and bought a lifetime Plex Pass. In not too long a time, maybe two years or so, Plex began moving towards the trash they have become so I tried Emby. I did not initially like Emby so I went back to Plex. I began even more to dislike Plex and the crap the were shoving down my throat. I then installed Emby again, this time on the same machine as Plex and even bought their lifetime subscription. I ran the two side by side for quite a while gradually moving to Emby as my full time media manager. During the time I had two servers on the same Windows machine I really had no problems. About a year ago I decided that Plex was more than a little redundant for me so I moved it to a second computer and only ran it for safety. Earlier this year I completely removed all traces of Plex from my life and I have been running Emby alone for my use. BTW: I did continue to monitor the Plex boards and occasionally even posted there. But I have since been banned from their boards because I mentioned Emby too often. Plex is quite thin skinned. I consider that a badge of accomplishment. I have never looked back. Emby is vastly superior to Plex for my use (mainly local media) and I do not miss Plex at all. As a disclaimer I must say that I do not watch or use anime so I cannot really make much of a comment about Emby's handling of it but, from the posts I have read, I think both Plex and Emby have about equal problems with it. The problems are mainly matching issues for both but those seem to get cleaned up by about as soon as they get reported. Plex has seemed to become a bit slower in fixing their anime problems. The real trick with Emby, as it is with Plex, is naming. I STRONGLY suggest that you name and structure your files and directories exactly as Emby wants. Emby does support many naming conventions but it is almost always better to use the simplest naming that Emby supports. I think you will find Emby superior to Plex but they are different and the differences can be daunting for many people. 1
beefsnack 16 Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 I currently Use Both On the same Machine without any issues at all, to condemn one to benefit the other isn't my thing, I think their both good, they both have their Pro's and Con's, Each platform works different to the users liking, I know some of my users prefer one over the other, anyways, on to the Anime, Ive had no issues with a lot of them but, sometimes you'll run into some, I just added Trigun and Gurren Lagann Movies and TV Seasons and both Plex and Emby picked up the correct Names and images without a problem. and if I remove any it'll just vanish, and you wont get the red trash cans in Emby, they just delete, Plex is a much slower UI, Emby moves a lot faster, it loads faster, It processes faster, overall it's just faster. Unfortunately Plex is becoming a add base service and not the home streaming service it once was.
