Change to Non-Standard Music Functionality Major Limitation (Flaw?)

Hi,

I just don't understand why the recent change to "support composers" would have ANY effect on the Album Artist, Artists detail views.  I mean there is a "Composer" view right?

So  why has the functionality of "Play" and "Shuffle" changed to work like no other music player I am aware of. (other's chime in)

If you are on an artist detail screen and hit play or shuffle you expect to hear songs by xyz artist. The expected/actual result in any normal music app is a song that xyz artist physically performed on. (albumartist, artist tag). It sounds so basic and obvious because the is the common understanding in the community.

Emby Does not work that way. What...........?

Apparently by design "composer" credits are automatically some how impacting the artist views, adding incorrect song and album relationships.  Why ?  The composer view can/Should be different, it is there.

Hey, I just want to go to the album artist view click on     Jimi Hendrix and NOT get this

Meaningless genre's (notice Rock isn't showing up, maybe a space thing)

Click on shuffle and not get this.

Basic music player functionality would never include in an "Artist" shuffle tracks by other performers. Composers Do Not Equal artists in this view or context. There is a "Composer" view.

Composer credits should not change basic functionality,..when I want to hear Hendrix, I want to hear Hendrix.

While I might feel as you do in some cases I also know that asking an app to play music by a particular artist is not always guaranteed to play only songs by that artist.

Example: If I tell Pandora to play music by Herbie Hancock I get a mix of his music and Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Chick Corea and many others.

That is just how many apps behave. Of course there are others that play a more narrow or limited selection. To me neither action is really "right" and neither is really "wrong" but I do prefer the first action in most cases.

If I ask for Iron Butterfly radio I expect to hear "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" but I also would not be surprised to hear music by "Quicksilver Messenger Service" or "Spooky Tooth" or "Jefferson Airplane" or "Country Joe & The Fish" among many others. I like that kind of variety but, should I want just one artist I would either go with a service that does just one artist at a time or create a playlist that has songs by just that artist.

There are many many ways to present music for playback and there are almost as many applications that follow just about any convention you want. It is just a matter of figuring out exactly what you want and finding a method to do it.

I do not use Emby much for audio as I have found other ways but in my experience I did manage to find ways to play my music/audiobooks in any order I want in Emby. It is just a matter of trial and error until I hit the correct method.

Rather than asking Emby to change it is easier and faster to just figure out how to get what you want without changes to Emby itself. I believe I would use playlists. I even believe playlists can be played randomly in Emby but I have never used that feature.

Hi,

I am not sure you can fairly compare a "service", (Pandora, artist radio channels etc) with basic player functionality, think iTunes. Regardless, put that functionality under composers where it belongs or create emby channels.

I appreciate the above suggestions, and comments. But some are not really practical. For example, I have around 2000 artists and 4000 albums, to create a playlist everytime I wanted to hear music by xyz, would be a nightmare.
