What is needed to play 4k

hi

I have a tcl 4k and a roku streambar that is also 4k , when i play a 4k mkv rip it plays at 1920 and says its mp4 under stats for nerds.

 

is there a setting on the roku players that i need to switch, i have nvidia shields and appletv 4k that plays all my 4k material properly.

i figured out why it was doing it, when auto is selected under quality it exceeds the max bitrate but if i switch it to 110 its fine

Okay, glad you figured it out.  For auto, we stay within the published specs of the device but sometimes, they can handle more.
