sobeitjedi 4 Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Hi. Trying to update my Synology DS215j to the latest DSM and therefore update Emby server to the latest version too. During the process, Synology renamed the emby user account to emby_XXX (or similar). Now, when 'm trying to setup Emby libraries, it cannot find my shares on the server. I've tried deleting the emby_XXX account on Synology so I can add just "Emby" as the user account, but I get a message saying that this account already exists (even though it's not listed in User & Groups). Can anyone please help/advise? Thank you.
sobeitjedi 4 Posted June 24, 2022 Author Posted June 24, 2022 No, I didn't visit this forum until after I encountered upgrade issues. What do I need to do?
FrostByte 5392 Posted June 24, 2022 Posted June 24, 2022 Since you have done most of it already the parts you may still be interested in are recovering Emby data from your DSM 6 information (putty) and the last little part about setting share permissions so you can add libraries - stop Emby - remove emby_pkg user and video group - enable admin account if needed - enable ssh in Synology settings (Terminal & SSH menu) Not shown in video: - connect with Putty to Synology, login with admin user and get root rights with: sudo -i - copy files from old Emby share to new data location: cp -rv /volume1/Emby/* /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer - adjust owner from copied files: chown -R emby:emby /volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer - close putty Shown again in video: - From Control Panel go to Shared Folder and edit each share that is used by Emby Server. Click the share, then EDIT, go to permission tab, select System internal user from drop down, grant emby user read/write access. - start Emby However, if you just need to add libraries and want to forget all the putty stuff here's another guide

Solution sobeitjedi 4 Posted June 25, 2022 Author Solution Posted June 25, 2022 Hugh thanks for the replies - I'm finally back up and running. All I needed to do was to add the permission in this new area, as mentioned above in this thread Many thanks. : 1
