Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Currently you have no control over this. Devices that are not used automatically drop their Premiere status after a couple of days but not sure of the exact expiration timeline. Not the Device list really has no correlation to Premiere slot, it just gives you a general idea of how many devices have ever connected to your server.
mcr_erick 0 Posted June 12, 2022 Author Posted June 12, 2022 well... i think it must be count by devices simultaneously. it will be clearer and righteous for us
Happy2Play 9780 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 (edited) But I can us as many browsers as I like without any of them counting. But the catch is what features are used as TV Mode in a Browser makes it count or Live TV. The matrix short of breaks it down as it is about features in most cases, but there are specific devices that do require Premiere or device Unlock. ebr 16184 Posted June 12, 2022 Posted June 12, 2022 Hi. It is not simultaneous. It is devices that use Premiere features over the period of a week. More details: Is there a limit to Emby Premiere
EmbyOak 23 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I understand there is no way of removing devices or seeing what devices are on the list. Unfortunately a friend of mine was using my Premiere key while he waited for his key (this was a year ago). I deleted my key last night off of his server and this did not seem to change the count as I will still over (I also ordered the extension pack and am still waiting for this key to "arrive"). When will those devices be removed from my profile? A week? Before I figured out the device count I realized my server had a lot of devices registered with my server. TONS of devices, mostly browser based and repeats but a few STB boxes that were registered multiple times. It seems that I myself had a lot of browser devices registered which leads me to ask if the device count for Premiere features uses something similar which would end up counting multiple devices even thought it is a single device. I have no problem paying for more (which I did last night), I just want to make sure the count is correct. Is there a way for one of my users to buy their own Premiere key, have it applied to my server and count towards the device count? This way I know I have enough slots for devices without having to pick up the tab for everyone's devices? Being able to have a list of users would make life a lot easier as well. I had my godson reach out to me stating his profile is blocked as he is already using his username on another device (I limited him to a single device). How does this count work? If he is watching on his laptop then wants to watch on his cell phone, how does he transition while being limited to a single device? Can he just log out of his laptop then log in to the other device? Can he do this with a browser versus the app or is one better to use than the other? Thanks!

Yes, unused devices will drop off the list after about a week. Quote How long does a device count towards my limit? The system tracks device usage for about a week. So you need to count only devices used regularly by your users when estimating the limit for you. 52 minutes ago, EmbyOak said: Before I figured out the device count I realized my server had a lot of devices registered with my server. Only apps that use Premiere features off your server count towards your limit, usually translates that the good portion of the devices in your Devices list actually doesn't. Quote The limit applies only to Emby Premiere features so only apps that utilize those features will count towards the limit. 55 minutes ago, EmbyOak said: Is there a way for one of my users to buy their own Premiere key, have it applied to my server and count towards the device count? No, but number of client apps can be unlocked (one-time fee) for full-playback and not counting against your devices limit in that case; note that it doesn't apply to other Premiere features. ebr 16184 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Hi. Please let us know if that answers your questions.
EmbyOak 23 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Instead of using a 1 week timeout, it would be nice for the end user to have an ability to disconnect from the server removing their device from the device count. As mentioned before, my godson has an iPhone, laptop and now a girlfriend with a laptop. I limit his profile to 1 simultaneous stream at a time. I know he knows the repercussions if he shares his username/password with anyone, but on the outside chance something goes wrong, I want to make sure my server is not bombarded. Can something similar be done with device counts? As an example, allow multiple keys on a server and then users are assigned to a specific Premier key? Or an ability to purchase outright more than 45 devices. I'm apparently in the mid 30s now from a device count perspective, so this number should drop after a week of waiting for the users on my buddy's server to disappear from my key (now that he is on his own key). I do not believe I ever have more than 5 or so maximum streams going at any time. But when you look at the number of devices (just for my wife and I), there are 15 as stand alone devices (17 when you count browser and app on a laptop) between STBs, iPads, iPhones, laptops and smart TVs. Then you have a cottage with multiple devices. Now add a couple of family members that each have kids with multiple devices and multiple properties, it takes nothing to hit the 25 limit. I'm not complaining about the 25 or 45 limit, I'm just looking for an easier way to manage the limits (if someone logs out, it removes their device from the count or allow multiple keys on a server that users get assigned to). Having multiple keys on a single server that users get assigned to will also increase the revenue to Emby. My family members and close friends are not going to manage their own servers, but I can easily tell them to buy their own license that I will apply to my server (if you do this, make sure we can put a descriptor on who's key that each belongs to, makes managing a lot easier).

EmbyOak 23 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 @GrimReaperwhen I stated "outright" purchase, I was referring to "Lifetime" versus "Monthly". Aside from my suggestions on different ways of managing device count, it would be nice to be able to see the number of devices so that one can get a heads up by keeping an eye on things versus "hey, it says you have run out of licenses on your server" and when I looked at the server there were only 3 streams happening at the time.

Quote Why can't I see which devices are counted in my limit? The main reason we do not provide a way to do this at this time is security and privacy. To allow your server to see this exact information would require us to expose a public API that provides this information. Since we do not require you to have an account with us in order to use Premiere, there is no way for us to secure this API in a way that we are comfortable enough with to expose it. We are working on ways we may be able to do this in the future. Our device limits are designed around individual household use and exist primarily to enforce that this is how our system is used instead of as a platform for pirate stream providers.
EmbyOak 23 Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 @ebrI would prefer you not imply I am providing a pirate streaming service or being a pirate streaming provider. I read what you posted and I didn't ask to see the list of devices that are part of my count (although it would be nice, but I understand the security around why not). I simply stated "it would be nice" for a count (which I have no idea if it is doable, hence the point of it being an "ask").

I was simply explaining the logic behind the limits.
MomJim 1 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I don't care about seeing the list, but it would be nice to at least know the number, like just a "You are at 07 devices that count against your available total of 25" or something of that nature. Households use way more devices per individual nowadays, with TVs, tablets, phones and laptops. Just my mom and boyfriend have TVs in every room and 2 phones, 2 laptops, and a tablet each. It will only take a few people to fill up the slots. 1
