Seeking too far (VC-1) causes playback failure with Nvidia - ver 4.7.1

Reporting an issue discovered when transcoding VC-1.  (HEVC and H.264 appear ok)  ver 4.7.1
Normal playback not impacted.
Error only manifests when seeking forward past that which is already transcoded.

This was recreated on two systems  (CoffeeLake and Xeon E5) both using Nvidia GPU

Steps to recreate:

1.  Play VC-1 content (1080p is fine)
2. Transcode to H.264
3. As playback starts,  buffer starts to build.
4. Jump forward off the end of that buffer -- aka.  Seek out some 30 minutes into the movie.
5. Observe FFMPEG failure (playback does not seek)

Log attached which captures reported error

Hi there, please attach the main emby server log as well from this time. Thanks.

@ChuckPa - Do you have the latest Nvidia drivers installed? From where did you get them?

Posted

@ChuckPa - does it happen with this one file only  - or rather like with all VC-1 files you have?

Posted

It works with all VC-1 I have.

If you'd like,  I'll cut you a chunk from the file, upload to Google,   then recreate the fault using that sample file.

Would that be helpful?

Posted

Yes, as long as the chunk exposes that behavior - that would be great!

Working now to create a long enough sample  (trick is getting it uploaded  -- haha)

Will post again when ready for you.

We went through the entire sequence again to confirm on both machines  with this file.

1. Ubuntu 20.04
2. Emby Server 4.7.1
3. Nvidia P2200 -  (NVIDIA-SMI 510.73.08    Driver Version: 510.73.08    CUDA Version: 11.6 )
4. Test file: (1.53 GB) https://drive.google.com/file/d/16EqHkdmOdatGBsWWmvq1RSo6YCzMUZ03/view?usp=sharing

My test sequence:
1.  Create "home videos" section
2.  Add file
3.  Start Playback  in web browser  (this is a  20-ish Mbps 1080p)
4. As soon as "Matrix green" is seen,  seek 11:30 into file.

Testing results:
1.   Libva - plays but displays image blocking as it recovers from the seeking
2.  QSV - fails
3.  Nvidia - fails

When playing H264, MPEG2, and  HEVC do not exhibit this problem.

Luke,
Apologies for forgetting to report back.

Currently at 4.7.10  and Nvidia drivers 515.86.01 (CUDA Version: 11.7)

  This issue no longer exists.
