Thumbnail Image Extraction results in grey images on ATSC3.0 channels

I recently configured my HDHomeRun CONNECT 4K tuner to pick up ABC,NBC, and FOX from the new locally broadcast Orlando area ATSC3.0 channels

Then I noticed a problem, the Thumbnail Image Extraction results in mostly grey images only on ATSC3.0 channels

Here are two samples:

The "Nick Cannon" show is from the ATSC3.0 channel that had grey thumbnail image extraction thumbnails, the other regular ATSC 1 channels don't have this problem.

"The Price Is Right" show is a recorded show on ATSC 1 channel with normal thumbnail image extraction thumbnails

I tested several times, different transcode settings, even delete .bif files and run scheduled tasks to scan metadata, then thumbnail image extraction again, the results are always the same only on the shows recorded from the ATSC3.0 channels.

I can change my tuner back to the ATSC 1 channels so I'm not continuing to be effected, I can test a beta if you like.

I'm running Emby Server 4.7.2.0 on Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS

@mchallis Do you have the latest firmware installed?

A while ago I had been in contact with SiliconDust about an issue with incorrect keyframe marking through their firmware.
Please make sure you're up-to-date. Next step would be that you send a test file. for investigation.

Thanks,
sw

Yes I have been keeping up with the latest firmware.

Thanks for any help

Could you please provide a short recording (like 10min) that exposes this behavior?
(e.g. via PM)

Sure, particularly 4.8.0.4, once available for your server. Thanks.

@mchallis - sorry for the confusion. The fix has finally made it into beta. Could you please try with 4.8.0.8 ?

Thanks,

@mchallis will guess it is related to this topic.

I installed 4.8.0.8 and ATSC3.0 channels wont play, no compatible streams. I am currently watching the 1.0 channels instead. My HDHomeRun CONNECT 4K had a new firmware so I applied that, but that wasn't the problem.

I'm attaching logs and PM you a sample recording

embyserver (5).txt 144.11 kB · 1 download ffmpeg-transcode-303f9230-cbd3-48d8-b658-451a1002f1e7_1.txt 50.37 kB · 2 downloads

OK, wait wait...

This conversation is about image extraction.

Please create a new conversation for a different problem.

I tried both files you sent me, and with 4.8.0.8, images appear to be extracted correctly:

I think I got what this was about: Not thumbnail or chapter images but primary/preview image extraction.

I've been able to reproduce that. It should be fixed in the next beta.

Thanks for reporting!

Version 4.8.0.9 beta solved this, the thumbnails are working

ATSC3.0 channels are recording and playing back properly too.

Thanks
