romainsi 8 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Hi, when I want to upgrade to the new version like usually, i've the followed message on Centos 7 : Error: Package: emby-server-4.7.2.0-1.x86_64 (/emby-server-rpm_4.7.2.0_x86_64) Requires: libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.18)(64bit) You can try to use --skip-broken to work around the problem You can try to run: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest If I try : yum install glibc The package glibc-2.17-326.el7_9.x86_64 is already installed in its latest version Nothing to do Thanks for your help
Q-Droid 989 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Hmmm, this is a new twist. I'm going to look into this because if I can't work around it on my server it might end up being the nudge Ive needed to upgrade.
Luke 42077 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 HI, yes we're trying to compile our packages against newer versions of libraries for the benefits that will bring, so now unfortunately we have do decide between undoing that or introducing legacy packages for the older OS versions.
Q-Droid 989 Posted June 5, 2022 Posted June 5, 2022 It looks like release 4.7.1 is the end of the line for Centos 7. Installing/building glibc 2.18+ in an alternate location and relying on LD_LIBRARY_PATH wasn't enough to get 4.7.2 to work. The emby-server core dumps when it can't find the glibc of the right version in a specific path. The standard repos don't have anything newer than 2.17 for el7 and trying to force a newer version could break so many other things. Likely would spend as much if not more time and effort than just upgrading the OS. ...time for me to upgrade...
romainsi 8 Posted June 5, 2022 Author Posted June 5, 2022 Thanks for your reply, finally Docker is my solution while waiting to plan an OS migration to Almalinux or Rocky.
Rolzzzz 0 Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 (edited) would have been nice to have that noted somewhere before I tried to upgrade... Edit - because upgrade failed, so just started older version and all is good, still point above stands Edited June 6, 2022 by Rolzzzz
Luke 42077 Posted June 6, 2022 Posted June 6, 2022 I think what we're going to do is introduce a legacy package for older versions of the OS. 2
osilo 0 Posted June 7, 2022 Posted June 7, 2022 @Luke Do the latest versions still support CentOS 7? I'm having dependency issues (GLIBC) that would require I update to CentOS Stream 9. I might try containerizing as a solution. Solution Luke 42077 Posted June 12, 2022 Solution Posted June 12, 2022 Apologies for the disruption. The builds are patched and CentOS 7 support has been restored. Just download the rpm again from the website and you should be good to go. Thanks. 2

I have been running CentOS for a long long time but not married to it. Cheers,

Cheers, From our standpoint, no, any of our supported ones should be fine, although Ubuntu is usually the easiest for most people. 1
jmangan 11 Posted June 16, 2022 Posted June 16, 2022 I'm in the same boat; I would rather stick with a RedHat-alike than move to Ubuntu (just familiarity). I know there shouldn't be any real difference between the latest incarnations but does anyone have any experiences yet with the new alternatives, Alma, Rocky, etc?
egmonton 0 Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) It looks like you're running into some dependency issues when trying to upgrade Emby on CentOS 7. That being said, it's worth noting that CentOS 7 has reached its end of life (heck out source: centos 7 end of life), so it might be worth considering upgrading to a newer version of CentOS or switching to a different operating system altogether. Alternatively, you might want to try using a package manager like RPM or YUM to resolve the dependency issues and upgrade to the latest version of Emby. Either way, I hope this helps and that you're able to get Emby up and running on your system soon. Best of luck! Edited February 28, 2023 by egmonton
