K22R8CT 25 Posted June 3, 2022 Posted June 3, 2022 When sonarr or radarr upgrades existing media it deletes the emby-created NFO file. This causes Emby to recognize it as new content - "Added" is reset to the date the file was updated. That's obviously not desirable but is the problem with sonarr (i.e. it shouldn't delete the NFO) or with Emby (i.e. NFO deletion shouldn't reset "Added") ?
Luke 42085 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 HI, just deleting an nfo by itself will not cause this, so I'm guessing the video file name is also changing as well, right?
K22R8CT 25 Posted June 4, 2022 Author Posted June 4, 2022 (edited) No in fact initially I assumed it was a sonarr bug so I wrote a script to restore the deleted NFO from my recycle bin based on the file name. If I set sonarr to trigger it on upgrade Emby's "Added" isn't reset. EDIT: it's possible the extension might change (e.g. mp4 to mkv) - is that what you meant? Edited June 4, 2022 by Anon28109
Luke 42085 Posted June 4, 2022 Posted June 4, 2022 Quote EDIT: it's possible the extension might change (e.g. mp4 to mkv) - is that what you meant? Yes, so this is what's causing it to be treated as a whole new file, not the nfo deletion.
K22R8CT 25 Posted June 4, 2022 Author Posted June 4, 2022 But when I setup sonarr/radarr to restore the NFO (before Emby triggers a refresh) it solves the problem.
Solution Luke 42085 Posted June 4, 2022 Solution Posted June 4, 2022 It still becomes a new item in the database, but preserving the nfo just allows it to be populated with previous data. So yes I would do that. 1
K22R8CT 25 Posted June 4, 2022 Author Posted June 4, 2022 That works, thanks. Still it's confusing that while identification is format-agnostic, if MovieName (MovieYear)-1080p.mkv replaces MovieName (MovieYear)-720p.mp4 it's recognized as new.

That depends on your date added setting. If it is file creation date, then yes because it is a new file. If, instead, it is added date, then that should not make it "new".
