It defines a version: mkvtoolnix=70.0.0-0~ubuntu2204bunkus01

The updated script (today) does not specify any version "apt -y install mkvtoolnix mkvtoolnix-gui" this will install the newest v86. It also only adds the repo for noble main.

Ill go ahead and change it to the jammy repo and specify v70 for mkvtoolnix. Hopefully no issues running jammy package on noble.

Thanks

Got everything working. Added these repos and set mkvtoolnix to use 70.0.0-0~ubuntu2204bunkus0.

deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.gpg] https://mkvtoolnix.download/ubuntu/ jammy main

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy main

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-updates main

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy universe

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-updates universe

Note that the mkvtoolnix repo is not noble but jammy even though the docker image is built on noble.

Thanks.

My latest dockerfile is (I know the jammy repos should not go in with the mkvtoolnix but it works)

FROM lscr.io/linuxserver/emby:4.8.8.0-ls215
RUN apt update && apt install -y wget
RUN wget -O /usr/share/keyrings/gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.gpg https://mkvtoolnix.download/gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.gpg
RUN printf "deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/gpg-pub-moritzbunkus.gpg] https://mkvtoolnix.download/ubuntu/ jammy main\ndeb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy main\ndeb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-updates main\ndeb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy universe\ndeb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-updates universe" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mkvtoolnix.download.list
RUN apt update && apt install -y \
	mediainfo \
	mkvtoolnix=70.0.0-0~ubuntu2204bunkus01

v70 is the latest supported version

I updated the script to install the latest all seems to be working just fine. No errors from the plugin from what I have checked.

There is no reason to use "stone-old" versions of mkvpropedit. Only V71.0/V71.1 have a bug that causes file corruption on certain files.

This was fixed in V72.0, and all versions above V72.0 are ok so far.

Maybe I could just change it to explicitely exclude v71/v71.1 .. that may be a better way to do it.

That's interesting, I get this error in the Emby log files whenever I try anything above v70

Did you set the option to overwrite the mkvtoolnix version check ?

I'll change this when I get back from vacation but I am going to need to put a warning in there that using a non tested version may, in future, corrupt the files it updates.    A far better way to do it is simply use a supported version and keep it in its own folder.  That way you get the latest and greatest for your main use, and a known working version for this plugin.

Yeah when I do that it works, but the issue with that is I have to check it each time the task runs because it automatically disables after a single use.

I have it using v70 right now and it seems to be working on noble fine.

Overwrite version is not enabled. What version of the plug do you have?

I have 1.0.1.42

@rbjtech

Now im really surprised...since we found out the corruption problem 2 years ago (private testing mediainfo plugin) i use most time newer versions of mkvpropedit with the latest plugin catalog versions and since a few month your modified version, and it works...even if i not get the "mkvpropedit version is supported" text in the debgug log...

So now i surprised why its working for me (since 2 years and different mkvpropedit version >= V72) in case the version check of mkvpropedit is still there and not "bugged"....

I'm guessing there are newer versions in the forum. I assumed the catalog would update it but looks like that's a version from 2022. Will take a look.

Added 'decade' tagging a while ago to my own version (lol) but I don't ever recall uploading it on here.

This adds a tag with the decade that film or episode belongs to - prefixed with a hash.  ie #1980   This allows you to quickly filter for all films in the 1980's for example.

WARNING - there is no on/off switch for this decade tag - so if you use this version, it will add it regardless.    I never got around to adding another toggle switch..

Emby.MediaInfo.zip 300.25 kB · 12 downloads

As always, please backup the previous DLL before overwriting with the attatched.  A restart will be required and a refresh of items if you want the new tags added.

@matrixtechI installed this version before updating my script.

yeah, the catalogue for community plugins can sometimes be a bit of an issue as I believe only a very limited set of ppl get access to update the version, so they tend to only be updated in the forum. Especially for minor versions.

As for the version restriction, regardless of if its working or not working, the reason it existed is so the plugin dev would not get a repeated of what happened where they were blamed for all the errors caused because they didn't have the bandwidth to pre test every new version of the apps as they were released. So this was added to put the burden onto the user.

A possible solution would be to add a blurb to the enable button for the overall plugin advising that version changes of the underlying apps could cause problems and its up tot eh user to ensure they use a version that is stable.

This way, by turning on the plugin, you also agree that you have a working version of the required apps installed as well. the scripts can then reliably be changed to use latest versions and no longer need to worry about what version is in use and if that will cause users issues.

The other factor is people that know how to load a dll, are also the people that can generally fault find themselves.  I updated this plugin for my own needs to try and help fill gaps in the core system and shared the updates - with a big disclaimer that it was only tested on my own system.  For most community derived free plugins, i would say little testing outside of the devs own system has been done.    This is also the reason I have not looked to update the catalogue version.   For paid for plugins,  then these must be in the catalogue but there is a little more testing responsibility and support required imho.

Btw I also wrote the wiki page to try and help with the install and support queries - this is still maintained by me.

@SimCityI worked on the docker-mod on and off for about a year and had a custom version working before I submitted it as an official Linuxserver docker-mod.  I didn't think to check the wiki until I saw the issue you posted on the docker-mod Github.  I didn't mean to duplicate your work.  I looked at your code and it's more comprehensive than the current version.  Feel free to submit a PR if you'd like.  Improving the official docker-mod would be great.

its all good, I was just surprised when I saw an emby mod show up when I was looking up something else on LSIOs docs page because I had done extensive searches prior to starting mine to see if there was anything close to what I was thinking of making and came up empty.

I raised the issue ticket because of the potential confusion it may cause in regards the version of mkvtoolnix that is in use. But after that, discussions here went into the need to use the old version of it in the first place. So we are now in a place where it potentially may not need to be changed at all. seems it really depends on what version of the plugin a given user has installed. Hence i have taken no further actions.

As it stands, I currently no longer have the spare time to maintain anything. I started on a version that would also set the config xml file locations if they aren't already 3 months ago and still haven't gotten round to testing it (not even sure if that code was committed).

There really is no need to keep mkvtoolnix updated - the only reason the Plugin even has a check on the version is because a certain version broke MKV files (generally, nothing to do with the plugin) and thus we needed to ensure that version was not used.    As long as mkvpropedit can update the MKV files, ANY version can be used - so if you have a working version - then just leave it be - there is no need to have the latest and greatest version - the plugin will not care .. ;)

I'll see what I can do re prefixing - but I need to setup a new instance as I would not want that prefixed to all my descriptions.  btw, would you want it looking like below - with new lines etc or just prefix it as text, then start the episode description?   (not sure how much screen space Kodi has for the description..)

The text behaves similarly in Kodi as in Emby (at least in the Embuary skin), in other skins similarly, in some skins the text scrolls itself. In any case, there would be plenty of space. You could also completely write out Dolby Vision Profile 7.6 and so on, because there would be significantly more space. Like this, for example:

Video: 4K - Dolby Vision Proile 7.6 - HDR10 [53,5 Mbits/s]
Audio: Dolby TrueHD Atmos 7.1[4.723 kbits/s]

Movie/Episode description, blablablablabla.....

In any case, with this media information in the movie/episode description, you would have much more freedom in terms of space. However, the slogan is used rather less in Kodi. But I could be wrong, because I have never really paid attention to it.

Are you the dev for the media toolbox? Because if you are please help me with my issue that is driving me crazy..
