New Server 4.7.0.60 causes slow conversions / redownloads programs

Server 4.7.0.60 installed a couple days ago and afterwards, the conversions are molasas slow.  In addition, this new version has gone through all my TV series and now records programs previously recorded and converted.  As an example, I have the entire collection of Bat Masterson, and is grayed out (keep it alive just in case I may have missed an episode).  Now, it records them anew and subsequent slow conversion. This was not happening before.

One additional item:  I removed all the conversion Series under conversions; I like to auto convert as soon as a new episode is recorded.  Just to see what would happen, I manually selected one of the .ts episodes, "the Deputy S01E12" and then another episode of another series and they are now converting much faster; but still much slower than before.  I am wondering if the server update corrupted something and removing all the TV Series under conversions did seems to have helped a bit.

Hi, the conversion is slower on this particular example because we now support reading and converting the embedded closed captions, whereas before we didn't and therefore just ignored them altogether.

Does that answer your question on that?

Yes, it does, removing all the TV series and then doing a manual trial do see a difference, but still much slower.  I can live with this degradation as long as it does not get stuck which it was doing.  But what about re-recording currently recorded TV episodes?  I will re-add a TV Series to see what happens and let you know.

Hi, how did this go?

Luke,

Conversions on anything new is just a tad slower than before.  However, I had to removed everything I had in the conversions as any old or should I say previously recorded and converted is revisited and starts to convert again and is like molases stuck until I delete the download. This change is not working for me very well.   I still have a few series that are not complete and those I had in conversions that auto converted whenever a new episode was recorded had to delete for the aforementioned reason.  Now, manually convert new episodes for any current series like I do for movies. A new series of course does not have this issue, just records, creates a new folder for that series along with seasos and converts each episode without much fanfare and does not revist to convert.   I wish it would not snif the entire folder of previously converted to convert again as this hangs up all conversions as I said until I remove the folder from conversions and just do manually. I hope this makes sense! :)

Why are you converting your videos with subtitle burn-in?

Interesting.  I looked all over, I did have "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" checked, do not recall checking it, but probably did check it some time ago curious to know how it would work.  Nonetheless, I unchecked this and added added a TV Series with multiple episodes that have been converted and it has begun converting and running like molasses.  If there is another area to check to uncheck etc, not sure and would appreciate a nudge in that direction.  Right now, appears stuck on 1.3%, but will let it go and see if it is just sniffing the entire folder or in fact stuck as before..

Ok, after about an hour an a half or so, conversions remain stuck at 1.3%.  I removed the TV series from conversions as I have in the past as even overnight, there will be little if any movement.  Single, manual conversions are fine, but since the new server update, Emby will snif all TV series that are in conversions and just start converting.

Hi @robertxgonzalez did you not read the help text underneath the option? The help text tells you that unchecking it will actually cause more subtitle burn-in, not less.

Anyway the reason the closed captions are burning in is because that's the only way we can convert them right now. In future updates we may have better ways such as extracting them as text files.

Running sum of users who understood that option: 0  🤣

no did not catch that, will check it.  These last two updates have changed things a bit and still looking, now see I need to dig deeper.  Let's just say Emby has been working wonderfully till this glitch and have not bothered to look under the hood much.  Now, will take a closer look! :)

LOL, sorry, my previous message was rather aiming at Luke because I'm saying for a long time that nobody understands it and even I don't understand it when I read it 🙂

Luke, BTW, just for $hit$ and Giggle$.... I have a laptop I use to record movies and other nice things when I am traveling on the road.  Thought to just nuke my Emby profile, update to the latest version just to see what would happen. Save for some additional plugins, left it at default settings once I configure it with tuner, etc  Not a powerful machine, but adequate for my needs and often records things I do not have here in South Texas.  Before it converted without much incident (not super fast, but adequate), now it is slow, like my Main Emby Server and is going through the entire collection, albeit a portable drive.  :)  In any event, I usually leave it at defaults as it seems to work best with factory settings.  Just thought to share.
