Picknstrum 1 Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 So I've been trying to set my server up with Emby. I'm able to connect locally but can't connect from outside my network. I've setup port-forwarding on my router to the following: <external IP>:8096 forwarded to <static server local IP>:8096 I'm getting a "can't connect" error (or something to that effect). For what it's worth, I started out using Plex but was having the same issue - I could easily get on locally but not outside my network. One thing with Plex is that it would sometimes connect for a bit and then disconnect on me. When testing my port on a site like canyouseeme.org, I'm getting connection failed due to timeout. Is this possibly related to my ISP blocking incoming requests or something like that? I'm super frustrated - any help is appreciated.

Try it that way, restart the server, see if it helps. If it doesn't, make sure you're port forwarding to the emby server. I've accidentally had it set up to the wrong machine!
seanbuff 1318 Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 Firstly I would make sure you have followed this guide to set up external connectivity correctly: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44002137137-remote-setup 3 hours ago, Picknstrum said: Is this possibly related to my ISP blocking incoming requests or something like that? It's possible you are behind cgNAT with your ISP. Read the last couple of paragraphs in the link above to determine if you are subject to that. Report back once you have that additional information.
Picknstrum 1 Posted May 14, 2022 Author Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) Thank you guys for all the suggestions! I figured it out: apparently for port forwarding rules on my Motorola router, i have to set the external IP to 0.0.0.0 Not sure why that is... If someone knows i'd be interested to understand why that is. For now, glad we're rolling and that i didn't have to open up UPnP. Edited May 14, 2022 by Picknstrum 1
