  • I sent the log through the Roku TV app at 10:05 pm Eastern
  • BMWEmby was the user trying the file.
  • This was on a Roku TV

Hi there, can you please attach the emby server log as well? Thanks.

How do I do that without posting my server address?

Hi.  This looks to be the root of the issue:

System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (40): Too many levels of symbolic links

What is your file system setup?  Is it possible you've created a circular reference somehow?

I am not sure what would cause that. What file system setup are you referring to?

I am running Emby from a docker in Unraid. I have been for several years. This started this week. The file works everywhere else.

Do you use any symbolic links in your file system?

I will have to claim ignorance here - not sure of the definition of symbolic links. I use Unraid as the server, Emby as a docker. The container path is /media and I have shares named Movies and TV. Sorry about being unknowledgeable about this. I did not do anything special to create a symlink in the Unraid code.

Something changed just this week. My wife and son have played these files multiple times.

Perhaps @cayars can help get to the bottom of it...

You need to switch to relative symlinks if using docker otherwise Emby won't have proper access.  Plex and Channels DVR users have the same issues as well.
Any media server or program that try's to look at file properties will faiil.

Here's a reddit post with fix.  It's written for Plex but same thing.
See if that helps you at all but if it doesn't let me know and we can setup a remote session and I'll take a look for you.

@AbobaderWas going to ask what is wrong with the link but it would appear to be an Edge Browser issue.

Thank you @cayars I will give that a try. Question though, if I have been using Emby for multiple years (at least 5), this file has been used multiple times, the file still works on other devices, why is this just starting this week?

That's the million dollar question isn't it?
When I'm paid I'll get you that answer.  LOL

It could be as simple as something was updated that changed functionality.  We still don't know if that's the answer or not but it matches this situation.
My only thought at the moment is the error message about "Too many levels of symbolic links".

If you'd like me to remote in with a desktop sharing app and then together look at it let me know.

Well, thank you so much for the help. I finally was able to get home and check the device that was failing. I did see a Emby docker update earlier today and I ran it. The update corrected the issues across all devices.

Are you using an unofficial Emby Docker container? We did not update ours today.

I am using Binhex-Emby. It is in the Unraid App Store.

Just noticed there is an official server app in the store. I will try to convert over if I can export all my settings. I don’t remember having the choice when I set this up years ago.

Hi, this is our official Docker container, just FYI: https://emby.media/docker-server.html

@Happy2Play I test it with Edge browser as well, and the link show fine.
