EZEd 60 Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I use MP3Tag to tag all of my music files. MP3Tag supposedly has a way to apply multiple genre tags to files by using the \\ separator. I tried using this method with many files in my library to apply multiple genre tags to the files, but Emby did not recognize the additional tags. It seemed to only recognize the first item in the string of Genre1\\Genre2\\Genre3\\etc.. When this didn't have the desired effect inside of Emby I then went back to a single Genre entry for all of the files inside of MP3Tag and re-scanned the library. I then went inside of Emby and tried to apply the multiple Genre tags to the files using the Emby metadata editor. But even then, the files still will not show up in multiple Genre inside of the Music library. How can or how have you been able to get this to work inside of Emby? What tool(s) did you use to apply multiple Genre to music outside of Emby? And once inside of Emby have you found a way to see files/tracks/albums show up under multiple Genre sorts? If so, how did you do it? Example to the above is Artist = The Crusaders. Genre is set to Intrumental R&B with MP3Tag. But I also want this artist to show up under Smooth Jazz genre and Jazz genre. How and where do I set the multiple genre values (in MP3Tag or Emby)? I've tried using Instrumental R&B\\Smooth Jazz\\Jazz in MP3Tag. That didn't work. Emby still only shows them in Instrumental R&B. I also went to The Crusaders in Emby metadata editor and set Genre tags to Instrumental R&B, Smooth Jazz & Jazz but the artist nor it's albums show up when I go to the Smooth Jazz genre or the Jazz genre...only Instrumental R&B. Can Emby be set to do this? How?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 Use a forward slash or semi-colon delimiter. Pop;Neo Soul;Blue-Eyed Soul;Blues;Jazz Pop/Neo Soul/Blue-Eyed Soul/Blues/Jazz Currently Emby only writes nfo files but does not use them so all information will come from embedded tags. But \\ might be another delimiter for @Luketo consider.
EZEd 60 Posted May 9, 2022 Author Posted May 9, 2022 @Happy, you do this (use the semicolon or forward slash) inside of MP3Tag or inside of Emby metadata editor?

In mp3tag via extended tags or genre column or directly in Genre field. Emby should see the updates but if it doesn't then Refresh the Album.
EZEd 60 Posted May 9, 2022 Author Posted May 9, 2022 okay I'll give that a try and report back. Thanks for info 1
nospotify 184 Posted May 9, 2022 Posted May 9, 2022 I use simple commas in the Genre field, which I set (or edit) in MP3Tag, and it seems to work great in Emby. Plus they work fine with the unofficial Smart Playlist plugin (example: Genre includes Jazz AND Piano). 1
EZEd 60 Posted May 10, 2022 Author Posted May 10, 2022 (edited) I used semicolon (;) in between all entries and obtained the desired effect. I did not try regular comma but I'm sure it would have worked too. I was using forward slash (/) as another delimiter and it was causing other problems, so I replaced all forward slashes with spaces, and all came out well. So evidently forward slash also works as delimiter similar to semicolon and comma. I don't know why the instructions in MP3Tag say to use double backslash (\\). For sure that one did NOT work. Maybe both Happy2Play and wordlover should give their advice to MP3Tag folks since it doesn't look like they know their own product. Anyways, it all worked out fine...thanks to you both for info.
