Karoot 3 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Hello everyone, pardon the bold on everything. I do it so its easier to see lol, I have horrible vision. My question is with users. I have a large family. 8 siblings, and I am close with family members on both sides. Also have some good friends I intend on giving access to. I switched over from Plex because I fell in love with Emby and the features it offers. I am a paid lifetime member. Is the 25 device limit general devices? If its premium devices only, what constitutes a premium device versus a standard one? I paid for extra users because I saw this and kinda panicked.

Solution arrbee99 1817 Posted May 6, 2022 Solution Posted May 6, 2022 Not really qualified to say, but these might help, unless you've seen them already - https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001173135-is-there-a-limit-to-emby-premiere https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001173099-emby-premiere-feature-matrix I think watching via a browser or via Kodi doesn't count towards the limit, other devices do. Re-read my first 5 words Thank you for your reply. I did see those. I didn't mean to ask a noob question since I am not one. I am a power user. However, I want everything to be explained to me as if I AM a noob because I had an issue with Plex because of this. They looked into my account. I told them about my big family and told me that the number of users I had was at its limit. So I started linking them via email, then they started emailing me again. I am not sure why. They accused me of breaking rules I never broke, which is why I came over to Emby. I spent 120 right upfront and just now the extra money for 45 devices, just because I don't know if I will need them.
arrbee99 1817 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 Ah well. Fair enough. As mentioned I don't know much about it. Just the general recommendation seems to be just to add users, starting I guess with whoever qualifies as the closest to you and see you reach any limit, if at all. Sorry for not being able to really help.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 The feature matrix tries to break it down. But it really depends on the devices being use as from a browser perspective you would not really have any limits unless using the Premiere features listed. But almost all dedicated clients/apps require Premiere for full playback functionality. When a Premiere client/app connects to you server it will use a Premiere slot and hold that slot during active connects, but if inactive it will free up that slot after a few day (maybe a week but not positive on exact time). Some clients/apps have a unlock feature that can force the user to unlock the client for playback listed in the matrix if you exceed your device limit
