Hi,

i noticed that when i open emby from pc (installed on synology nas), the audio of all my library don't work.

if i play the same mkv with vlc, audio is good.

i don't understand where is the problem, i'm sure that some month ago, with same files, i ear the audio also with pc.

thank you

The first thing we need to know is the format of the audio (DTS, AAC, AC3 etc).  The second useful thing would be to bring up stats for nerds which playing, which should give a hint about what it thinks it is doing - looking at the server dashboard while playing should give similar information.

Oh, and which client you are using.

Hmm - looks to me like it is a browser audio problem.  I would first: try another browser, and then reboot the PC.

Do you have any other clients to try (phone, tablet or TV, perhaps)?

tried with other browser, same problem

with AAC stereo audio, i ear.

but i'm preetty sure that in past worked also wit DTS audio

EDIT: i tried installing the Emby App for windows instead use web emby, and from app, all audio, works fine. but i want to find a way for re-able to ear audio from browser

EDIT2: with Microsoft Edge browser the situation is quite good, the AC3 audio works fine, the DTS still not work.

with firefox and chrome nothing... i tried to restore firefox with no result

I believe html web browers Firefox and Chrome do not support direct playback with AC3 audio.  It probably comes down to a licensing issue and the lack of need for browsers to support AC3.  Social media and online video playback does not use AC3, so building it into a browser and supporting it, is rather a waste of effort.  Chrome and Firefox have probably more important features to support AC3 only comes up with individual sites and private parties.  If you convert the audio to AAC FDK mp4a codec with either LP compression 128 or less or HE-AAC for higher audio bitrates.  Mp3 audio also seems to work, but AAC is safer.  You can have 5.1 in AAC if you wish, or convert it to stereo.

I believe that Edge and older Safari may have paid licensing fees for audio codec AC3.  I know there was $0.25 per browser use to pay to support HEVC video x.265 playback and they paid it.  These kind of issues have limited browser support for audio video codecs.  VLC, I believe built thier own decoder.

You can change audio on media in a couple of minutes using ffmpeg or GUI editor like AVIDenux.

Hope that helps.

Web browsers do not support DTS audio. If you restricted access to transcoding via user permissions, that is the reason for your problem.
