jlj1950 7 Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) This is the same issue I had about a month ago. I have a WD Ultra Passport that was not recognized, no contents, which I solved by placing a video in the root directory. Tha seemed to take care of the problem. Now, with the new installation, the drive is not recognized, again, even with a video in the root directory. I've deleted and installed the drive/libraary twice and the program will not recognize the drive and reports as empty. Any ideas? I've included the options file for the drive/library. Thank you. options.xml Edited April 30, 2022 by jlj1950 Spelling
Neminem 1519 Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 Not sure this is the problem, but it could be a bad USB cable. Do you have another cable you could try with. Some users are having that problem. https://www.westerndigital.com/products/portable-drives/wd-my-passport-ultra-usb-c-hdd#WDBC3C0010BSL-WESN
Locutus64 125 Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 Yea WD portable drive cables are a true joke. I've had three when I've had the rip the drive from their housing and buy a cheap USB dock for them. WD's hope is that people will keep playing with the cabling causing power surges through the drive thus destroying the drive so peeps have to replace it.

There are several variants in the body style. The closest to mine was opened up on youtube. The drive's USB-C connector replaced the SATA connector. I wonder if that's why the program has trouble recognizing the drive. I don't know if there is a Usb-C to SATA adapter anywhere, but I doubt so.

The laptop recognizes the drive without a problem. Only the software does not. There was a mention in the link of avoiding hubs. I'm using one. I'll try removing that hub. UPDATE: I removed the Passort from the hub and back to one of the laptop's ports. No success. The only other difference I can think of is the version of Emby I'm using. The last version was a zip file I downloaded and opened in a non-system directory. The current vetrsion was an installer package. I may have to try the other version. I renamed the directory so I can un-rename and remove the current version. I think the problem may lie in an inabillity to read USB-C drives possibly combined with USB 2.0 ports. Locutus64 125 Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 All I can honestly tell you is that I maintain my roommates system for him and he has had 3 for their drives and the power connector is the problem with them. They just never liked to stay connected properly. Go nowhere near them but every so often have to reseat the power connector to get them to run.

There's the USB-A to USB-C cable then a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Thank you.
jlj1950 7 Posted April 30, 2022 Author Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) My troubles began with the installer version of the program. My WD PAssport Ultra drive was not recognized, no matter what I tried. Prior to my re-installing Win10Prox64, I had few problems. The difference is, I had renamed the portable verison's directory and ran the installer verison. Realizing this, I closed the installer version I had running, and ran the portable version. My drive was automatically recognized and appeared on the Home screen without hesitation. The installer version uses system directories, which I avoid due to permissions issues. Perhaps this is the problem with the installer version. The problem isn't solved, but I have found a work-around. Thanks to everone. Edited April 30, 2022 by jlj1950
jlj1950 7 Posted April 30, 2022 Author Posted April 30, 2022 (edited) Hello, I spoke too soon. After thinking my drives were mapped incorrectly by differing versions of the program, I removed a library which no longer had a drive associated with the library. The program immediately began scanning. Currently, the drive is not being recognized, but the scan is still in progress and the drive mapping is in order. To recreate this, remove a drive on which a library has been recorded and documented. Then rmeove the drive. Check the drive mapping. Are the home screen drive you click on and the drive you are taken to the same? Try doing this with the two versions of the program and see if anything occurs in the mapping. I will post the results after the scan is done. My own opinion is the program is not adapted to reading USB-C drives correctly. RESULTS: The program has stopped recognizing my WD Passport Ultra drive. Previously, I had been able to solve this issue by adding a video to the root directory. Now, even though there is a video in the root directory, the program will not recognize the drive. No solution. No work around. SUGGESTION: Rework the drive access software. Add a USB-C library, perhaps. Edited April 30, 2022 by jlj1950
