Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I could be completely off base on this but I offer it for discussion. I was just thinking (at my age a very dangerous pastime) and it occurred to me to wonder why FileBot is so much better at matching. There are many many files I have encountered in the past that had no match in either Plex or Emby but FileBot matched it perfectly and only once or twice did I run into situations that were the other way around. After noticing that I always run files through FileBot before importing them into Emby and I virtually never get a mismatch. However it occurs to me that rather that simply copying or moving a file into the folder structure there could be an automated system where a file is placed on a "watched" directory and then it is moved to the correct place in the file system. FileBot has layers of complexities that I have never explored but it "might" do what I want all by itself. But I am not sure. I do not even use FileBot's ability to create a needed folder structure. It might even be set to place movies in individual directories automatically. But I do not do that anyway so I have never really investigated FileBot past the simple renaming functionality. My real question is why it is that Emby or Plex has not approached FileBot to improve their matching functionality? Or if they have what happened? One more thing: Both Emby and Plex have recently pretty greatly improved their matching of fringe cases and that is good. It just seems that there are at least some third party apps that are much better than either of those at matching and it might be good to get a little collaborative action directed towards getting better and faster matching. In fact maybe paying FileBot a bit and incorporating their methods into Emby might be a good move. Of course it could be that both Plex and Emby are better using their current methods as it is possible that FileBot's methods just will not work in a more complicated environment.
chef 3810 Posted April 23, 2022 Posted April 23, 2022 I have sent you an invite to a PM where we are currently working in exactly what you are talking about. It would be great to get some insight from someone who has worked with all three of the mentioned applications.
Luke 42077 Posted April 24, 2022 Posted April 24, 2022 Hi there, can you please go over a specific example? Thanks.

I did not think i was unclear but I would like for either TV shows or movies get placed in a "watched" directory and the get renamed and structured correctly and placed into the structure that Emby wants. The invite I received seems to be discussing exactly what I want.
