Is there a trick with the .ignore file?

I'm running Emby on Windows 11. I placed the .ignore files in a few key folders.  After doing so, the TV shows and movies still appeared. I ran library scans and metadata updates several times in each of the targeted libraries, but they still appeared.  Two days later, a few of them seemingly disappeared on their own when I check.  Another day or so after that, they all were not appearing as they should.  Good.  But now, I removed them; and after several days they are not reappearing.  I've done several library scans and metadata updates, but no luck.  Is there some sort of trick that I'm missing? Is there some specific process to run to make them appear or disappear when adding or removing the .ignore files??  Thank you for your time.

Might need specific example but adding and removing a ".ignore" file is a matter of a library scan to remove or show then folder content.  The only delay is how long the scan takes.

Hi.  Make sure you are putting the .ignore in the "main entity folder".  That is, if a TV series, then in the series folder - not a sub folder like a season or extras or something like that.

I placed the file in the main libraries. It worked in the past.  Maybe the library scans are only looking for new videos? So maybe it takes a scheduled entire scan for it to register? I'll schedule a library scan instead of just right-clicking and selecting the scan. Maybe that will work.

That did it!
(By the way, the Libraries still show up but no content is inside. I'm happy with that result.)

So the "trick" is to not be in the Home screen and right-click on the library to select "Scan Library Files". Nor is it to be in "Manage Emby Server", under Library, and right-click on the given libraries to scan for files. The solution is to go to "Manage Emby Server" \ Advanced \ Scheduled Tasks \ Library \ and hit the Play button under "Scan Media Library".

After that, all the .ignore files are working properly!  Thank you, @Happy2Play and @ebr for your feedback. They led me to the correct solution.

Solved.

I'm not finding that to try it myself.

It just needs a library scan (right click on library) in my test minutes ago, but that location mentioned is just Settings-Schedule Tasks-Scan Media Library.

The post specifically says a normal rightclick of the library and scanning did not do the trick. I can verify that cause I already tried that 2 before creating my thread, and 3 times since creating the thread.

Try Ctrl+F5 if you're in a browser window. It might just be a local browser cache issue.

Solved.

Thanks, it worked.

It was driving me crazy, all the other ways of refreshing the library weren't working.
