Reorganizing naming for movie versions completely destroyed library

So, I have a really weird issue. For a long time, I've used Jellyfin. After trying Emby, I was pretty quickly convinced by it's superiority, better stability, more polished etc. However, I had to change some things, for one: Up to now, I had named all my movies according to jellyfin's naming scheme: 'Movie name (year)'/'Movie name (year) - I. x264 1080p etc.' I've used I. II. III. to differentiate between different movie versions, for them to show up alphabetically as movie versions.

For some reason though, Emby only shows what comes after the hyphen if it's different. What's the same for every movie version's name doesn't show up in the versions' dropdown. This meant that instead of 'I. x254', 'II. x265' movie versions were named '. x264', 'I. x265'. Which was mildly annoying.

So I decided to rename all movie versions, by ordering them with letters: 'Movie name (year) - a. x254 1080p etc.' I batch renamed all my files, which worked fine. However after rescanning my library, some movies were shown as multiple movies, some had different titles or showed up as different movies even. Some extras, which reside in correctly named folders called 'featurettes' or 'extras', show up as full movies in my library.

What's weird: Only about 30% of my libraries titles are affected. The other 70% are just fine. I've checked the folders of movies affected, and they all still follow the naming conventions. Everything before the hyphen is exactly the same, such is the folder name. And again - before using the new naming scheme, everything worked perfectly. I've added some screenshots which showcase the issue. For some, metadata manager shows completely different titles from what the file's name should give it??

What's even weirder: Both Emby and Jellyfin have the issue, and the same titles are affected on both. They're not exactly the same, though (One version of Midsommar shows up as '7500 (2019)' in Emby's library, the same file shows up as 'Best F(r)iends (2017)' in jellyfin). If I replace the a. b. naming for the affected movies and rescan the library, they show up correctly again.

Why is this happening? Is there any way to keep to naming scheme, for it to show up correctly? Is there any reason for this issue - and why does it only happen for some of my files, while others aren't affected?? I'd be really glad for some help.

Here's the reddit post I made on jellyfin's subreddit to explain the issue:

My guess would be your b version subtitles folder breaks auto versioning.  Maybe even Files Stacking ie movie parts.  Would need to see what shows on the item details page for each listing.

There is no way to order multiversion selection list as every client will automatically select what it likes.

The plugin may be able to group them if you need that structure.

Thanks for your reply! I just tried deleting the Subtitles-folder, but the issue still persists.

I've uploaded a screenshot of the media info part - is that what you meant?

It's just really weird this happens...

Did you run a library scan after deleting the folder?

Yes. Multiple library scans, rebooted the server multiple times as well. The problem persisted...

The "b." version is lost.

And "c./d./e." version are multi-versioned.

Also Extras and Featurettes are lost.

But has to have something to do with naming scheme.  Changed a.-e. to [1]-[5]

Extra/Featurettes appeared also.

There are a few topics on this a common naming after the dash are removed.

Here you go.

Midsommar (2019).zip

OK the answer here is remove the  - a, - b from the file names. Files a and b are getting picked up as multi-part and being joined together. That's why b disappears.
