How to sort episodes by Combined Order from thetvdb

Hi,

I'm trying to sort the episode naming for Close Enough. I know how to set Air Date/DVD/Absolute ordering from the metadata panel, but this show has an alternate ordering system on thetvdb.

It's a cartoon with two shorter stories in each episode (like Rugrats or Rocko's Modern Life). Emby is set to air date by default but that's not how my files are structured; they have both stories in one file. Is there any way to use thetvdb's Combined Order for my files?

I don't believe this (new, I think) order can be selected in Emby yet; presumably it will come sometime.

Meanwhile, however, you can at least combine the descriptions from the aired order by using the combined episode numbering for your files - s01e01-e02, s01e03-e04, etc.

Emby will be using TVDB v4 in version 4.7.x.x.  But has not added all of the order options yet.  So two more types still need added and built into Emby UI.

Information not available in v3 api.

Hi @Happy2Play!

I'm using Emby 4.7.6.0 and I do not have types like in your screenshot. I only have "official", "dvd" and "absolute". I need "alternate" for a serie. Did I miss something? Thank you!

Those are the only three supported for now, but the dynamic ones are possible to support in future updates. Thanks.

I'm happy to have found this thread as I was looking with similar consideration.

I have found the Animaniacs to also have added the 'Joined Order' Function on TVDB and would appreciate the feature in future updates

you don't need to use the joined order for shows like Animaniacs, but it does require using the proper naming convention to get Emby to recognize the episodes correctly.

You need to know which episodes are in the joined episodes and use the aired listing.
You can then name the episodes to be like S01E001-E003
Which will be shown in Emby like this:

@Lukewill there be any ETA, when the International Order will be added?

I actually require it for the following show: https://thetvdb.com/series/pokemon#seasons

The German DVDs are in the International Order. The other 3 may be available, but they are all wrong. Due to the circumstance, that the order is partially shuffeled (eps of season 02 are played before season 01). I'm currently just not able to use emby for this series anymore. And that's a total shame...

There are lots of shows where the best order is one that Emby cannot select.  I'm disappointed that they are taking so long to implement something which I find hard to see as a complex addition.

Two pains for me personally have been old Sesame street episodes and F1 races mixed that are counted in race order without the 'filler' episodes

@Luke

Somewhere I read someone saying, that TvDB API does not return the season-types. I just checked that. It does. When calling /series/:id/extended under result.data.seasonTypes.
I don't know if there is more to it, but just list all types available there and we are good to go. That should be a thing of 15 - 30 minutes to implement...
