psybertech 33 Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Greetings. [Running Emby Version 4.7.0.32 beta on Linux] I can't seem to figure out how to get Emby to merge two shows that are stored in different shared/monitored folders that are the same episodes, but just different resolution. I have tried to search and read some past posts about this feature on here, but I can't seem to find an answer. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the series in question being stored on two different mount points/library folders monitored or perhaps the episodes are basically duplicated at a different resolution or a combination of both. I have my main TV folder (my NAS main RAID volume) monitored as: /mnt/main_nas_raid/video/tv And I keep a separate folder on an external SATA shared drive which is monitored as well: /mnt/external_sata/video/4k_tv 'TV Shows' library settings: folders monitored: /mnt/main_nas_raid/video/tv /mnt/external_sata/video/4k_tv advanced settings: ENABLED - "Automatically merge series that are spread across multiple folders " Example show's (Halo) folder structure: /mnt/main_nas_raid/video/tv/Halo/Season 01/Halo S01E01 [1080p].mkv /mnt/external_sata/video/4k_tv/Halo/Season 01/Halo S01E01 [2160p].mkv Expected Behavior: (1) show named 'Halo' with each episode having a dropdown which lets me pick the quality (1080p or 2160p). Actual Behavior: I have (2) shows listed under my TV Shows library named 'Halo'. I can also confirm that: Both shows have the same IMDB ID, MovieDB ID and theTVDB ID. Both shows seem to honor the played/un-played status (which is expected and desired). And before anyone asks... I keep my 4K content off my NAS because the 4K content is too large for me to waste on my main array and if it gets lost, I don't care really. I think that covers it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! j
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Testing this appears to work for me, folders are on the same system but shouldn't matter. Also on current beta 4.7.0.34 but don't think that would matter either. C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Test TV\Halo\Season 1\Halo S01E01 [1080p].strm C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Test TV 4K\Halo\Season 1\Halo S01E01 [2160p].strm
psybertech 33 Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 (edited) Hey Happy... OK, what you are showing is what I expected. I forgot I had my backup server to test on which is another Synology NAS, but not the same NAS the shares originate. I tried on the second Synology NAS with the same basic settings, and on it works as I expected and like what you have shown. But for whatever reason, the same setup to the same shares from my main Ubuntu Linux (fstab mounts) isn't behaving at all like your Windows or the Synology. Very odd.............. hrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Edited April 14, 2022 by psybertech
psybertech 33 Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 OK... So, after playing around with 2 backup servers (yes, and also testing on Windows and other platforms), I found the key to reproduce it. If you setup a dedicated '4K TV' library (like I have in my setup), that share the same folders, then the duplicated shows will appear in the main 'TV Shows' library. This does not duplicate the show in the '4K TV' library, just my main TV Shows library. When I delete the '4K TV' library, they merge. When I add the '4K TV' library back in, they split again. Weird. I really want to keep my '4K TV' library since it is just handy as opposed to remembering what shows I have multiple copies of. Its just fast and convenient to have. Any thoughts on how to have the best of both worlds?
Luke 42077 Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 For now this is expected behavior. Using the same folder path in more than one library is not fully supported, although we'd like to get there.
psybertech 33 Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Thanks, Luke. I find it a little odd that this behavior doesn't appear in movies, just TV, but I guess since there is no merge option in movie libraries, that is why. Thanks again. j 1
