SideCar 4 Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 New to Emby and planning out my drive configuration. Sorry if this has already been answered someplace. It's a hard one to search. Question: If storing poster files in the media folder, does Emby automatically create a thumbnail of the poster for display in the GUI or are the poster images retrieved from the media folders on each use? I'm assuming that thumbnails get created and stored in the library path someplace but I wanted to make certain before formatting a bunch of drives. Thanks!
Luke 42079 Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 Hi, Emby Server will use your local images when they are named properly: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming 1

Yes, Emby caches smaller versions of the source media separately from the sources in your media folders in a cache directory. These cached images are generated as they are requested by callers to the image api and are regenerated periodically. 2
SideCar 4 Posted April 12, 2022 Author Posted April 12, 2022 Thanks to both Luke and roaku. Luke: Sorry. I asked that question in a very muddled way. I was actually looking for the info roaku provided. Sorry to have misled on that. roaku: Much appreciated. This makes my storage architecture much simpler.
