MyronAub 13 Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 I have plenty of 3840*1920 4K videos that play fine but I have a few 3838*1920 4K videos that always default to playing at 1080p. On realising the image isn't as sharp as I'm expecting, I have to pause, go into settings and then manually select Display Mode 2160 to get them to play in 4K. Is there a setting somewhere to force Emby to automatically select the 4K/2160 display mode for 3838*1920 videos?
ebr 16182 Posted April 2, 2022 Posted April 2, 2022 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
MyronAub 13 Posted April 3, 2022 Author Posted April 3, 2022 Thanks, server log attached and App log sent to you from the nVidia app at 05:11 ET by user "Chris" trying to play "For All Mankind - S01E10". Emby correctly identifies the video as 4K HEVC HDR10 but for some reason reverts to playback at 1080 rather than 2160. embyserver(4).txt
ebr 16182 Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Okay, unfortunately, the log doesn't contain what I wanted to see. I assume you have auto resolution switching turned on in the app. It is probably the width throwing it off.

FrostByte 5392 Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 (edited) in the ATV client go to Playback Settings..."Match Video Resolution" Edited April 3, 2022 by FrostByte 1 1

So I guess there's nothing I can change within Emby to persuade 3838*1920 4K videos to automatically play at 2160?

I've also just watched an old show that was 720*576 and that also plays fine with the Shield (presumably) up-scaling it to 4K so all good. Just for reference, is there a reason why I might need or want to re-tick the "Match Video Resolution" option in the future?

Probably not. That option exists for people who feel their TV upscales better than the Shield. I'm not sure that is the case these days. 1
justinrh 260 Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 @ebr What about the automatic refresh rate switching option? Is that one known to be problematic? Better to have it on or off?

Better to have it on or off? That is personal preference and/or how good your display is at refresh rate adjustments. The downside is that it usually takes a few seconds to make the switch so there is a pause with a black screen both before and after playback.
