How i can lock Custom Made Collections so they don't get deleted?

As title says. I have tons of collections and they are all perfectly fine created abd i love it.

But i want to add some additional Colelctions for Movieverses like Wizarding World, Marvel etc.

I created them all and it worked great for a while, but now they are all gone (only the self created ones)

I guess that did happen after i manually clicked the "scan library" button

How i can avoid this in future?

Save NFOs with media.

i use NFOs

but for example all star trek movies have collections already - and this is saved in NFO

now i wanna add an additional collection in emby "Star Trek - Universe" with all star trek movies and shows. Without removing old collections

this works fine and looks good. until i scan media manually again. than they get deleted and this star trek movies have only the official collections

Are those NFOs created by Emby or 3-rd party app? Are they maybe locked? As an item can have multiple <set> nodes, as in as many Collections it belongs to.

NFOs are created with TinyMediaManager

of course they are locked - i don't want to change my manually maintained data with some random scrape processes.

but looks like i found the solution by myself.

in configuration is metadata manager. i did go to the self created collection and there i have at the end the option to lock this collection from changes.

just manually scanned library and still have this collection so i guess its working now

ok - does not work. all custom made collections are gone again.

so is it not possible to have additional custom collections when use NFO's?

I am guessing you are locking the Collection not the items and that will do anything really.

Collections are all about individual movie item metadata now.

For a custom collection to disappear something would have to remove the <set> node from items.

simple example member of provider collection and custom collection per movie member nfo

  <set tmdbcolid="125574">
    <name>The Amazing Spider-Man Collection</name>
  </set>
  <set>
    <name>1 Test Collection TEST</name>
  </set>

i tested this with one single movie in a collection - star trek 1 - i locked everything in metadata that was possible to lock and i even deleted the tmdb id

but after scanning my library the custom one was gone again - it ignores all the lock stuff and reads everyhting from NFO again

so you mean i should delete the collection in my NFO?

I cannot make anything disappear from a collection with a single or full library scan.

But @Lukeshould I be able to remove an item from a collection when the item metadata is locked?  Basically, we can say <set> cannot be locked right now.

But at the same time Locked items will/would prevent new Collections from every being made.  So I see the argument either way.

I guess it might come back later at some point if the server can't update the nfo file. If there's no nfo then it should be fine.

I just tested this. deleted the movie-set with TinyMedia Manager for Star Trek 1 movie

than i updated library in emby and after some time this movie had no movie-set as it should

than i added this movie in emby to the star trek collection and updated library again

it removed collection again

checked the nfo and there is only one line for set:

  <set/>

so this did not help at all

i made screenshot from my settings for this library (attachements)

What does "updated library again" mean?

go to configuration on server

there i go to library

click on the ... for my movie library and here "Bilbiothek scannen" (rescan library i guess)

Maybe tiny media manager removed it from the nfo ?

Looks like its working now.

i unmarked the: [ ] Nfo - Dateiformat für die Speicherung der Metadaten wählen.

i rescanned library now 3x and custom collections are not gone

well, i will montitor this for 1-2 days but it looks good for now ...

If and when tmm updates then nfo and removes them you'll see them getting removed from emby as well.

Testing in TMM it does not handle multiple sets unless I do not have it configured so any save in TMM will remove additional sets added by Emby in my limited testing.

@GrimReaperdoes that sound correct?

is correct - tmm saves only 1 Set. not possible to choose more than one

Correct, if Emby is allowed to re-write NFO, subsequent update from TMM will remove extra <set> nodes and leave only one (auto-TMDB), as it doesn't handle custom/multiple collections/movie sets.

ok it works now

made yesterday different test colelctions and they did not get removed after several library rescans - i only unmarked this in movie library config:

------------------------------------------

Metadatenformat:

Nfo [  ]
Dateiformat für die Speicherung der Metadaten wählen
------------------------------------------

And for the TMM question:
- no, emby does not save additional collections to NFO's too. I did not rescan this movies with TMM so TMM changed nothing and still emby removed them with a library rescan.
- now i have unmarked saving to NFO's and it looks like EMBY saves this data somewhere on my NAS in his own folders - and it works

It's because of this:

Yes it does, but it looks like TMM removes them later.

No it is only saved in the database so if anything happens to that database the info is lost.

But do not agree with the rest.
