I have ALL available metadata providers checked: MusicBrainz and TheAudioDB. There is something not working right with Emby's bulk image retrieval, which I believe Luke has identified already. Luke 42078 Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 Just a heads up I hid your post from the other topic because it is incorrect. I have not acknowledged an ongoing problem regarding downloading artist images. What I have acknowledged for you is something very specific - that a manual refresh of metadata of a music library does not always include artists in the refreshes.

Sorry for not being precise - I don't know the server code, just what you say here. From user perspective, we (multiple users) aren't seeing all Artist profile images downloading, even when we manually refresh metadata. So what is the solution for this? Is it in our hands or yours?
Luke 42078 Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 The issue of a a manual refresh of metadata of a music library does not always include artists in the refreshes should be improved in the 4.8 beta server. Thanks. 1
nospotify 184 Posted September 29, 2022 Author Posted September 29, 2022 Any update on the issue of Album Artist and Artist thumbnail images not downloading consistently or completely after a complete music library Refresh Metadata? I don't want to trigger a 6-8 hour refresh until this is fixed. Thanks.
Luke 42078 Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 It should be resolved in the beta channel now.
anhil 7 Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 I am running Emby Server 4.8.0.30 beta for QNAP. I added my music collection to Emby Library just a few days ago and I can confirm that the artist images (Primary/Logo/Backdrops) do not appear in the library when you refresh the whole music library. Just like reported earlier in this thread, I have to manually refresh the metadata of each individual artist one by one in order to make those images to appear. This is in deed a bit laborous when you got music from 2400+ artitsts in your collection. For artist metadata downloaders, i have set TheAudioDB as the first source and MusicBrainz as the secondary one. 1

Hi, when you refresh the entire library it will work just fine, however there is currently no way for you to monitor the progress of this, and this can lead you into thinking that it's not working. Additionally if the server is restarted in the middle of it, the background refresh queue will cleared out when that happens.

Just one example: Cyril Neville. Attached are the screens I see, along with server log file, and even a manual search pulls up nothing even though there is an image on the Discogs site, as you can see here: https://www.discogs.com/artist/98586-Cyril-Neville embyserver.txt

It's possible that the discogs website is using images from more sources besides just what they have in their own database.
nospotify 184 Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 Ah - that's strange they would post photos on their artist pages, but not make them available through the API. Thanks.

Thanks. There are other sites that do similar things. Maybe they're using an image from somewhere but are not licensed to redistribute it. Or maybe it's just a bug they need to fix.

Does this actually mean that, since my manual refresh of any randomly selected individual artist images works OK, I should be able to get all the images for all artists (if they are available from the configured sources) by refreshing the entire library, if I just wait patiently (let us say 24 hours) and do not reboot server meanwhile or do disturb this refresh process any other similar way?
anhil 7 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) I am starting to suspect that this way illustrated in my picture is not the intended way to do a global refresh of the artist metadata (including images) since for me it does not do it. I can do it manually artist by artit or even select several artists as a group which I want to refresh - those work OK. Maybe I am totally on the wrong track with this global refresh method Edited April 30, 2023 by anhil

anhil 7 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Maybe it is just me, but I cannot make it work the way I illustrated in the picture in my previous post. Nevertheless, I can check all the artists in the "Artists" view and ask emby to refresh metadata (including artist images) for this checked group. So no fuss, problem solved for me.

LOL.....I have the same problem but I also have 4500 artists so that's a NO-GO. I'll wait for the fix. But something tells me I may still have to find most of the pics myself as most of my artists are from 30-80 years ago.
