MOST Artist/Album Artist thumbnail images still not downloading

I still am unable to get Emby to consistently and completely download thumbnail images for artist/album artist. I have refreshed metadata for the entire music catalog using every permutation of "replace existing images" and "replace all metadata" vs. "search for missing metadata", and yet still most images aren't being retrieved. Some are names I wouldn't expect any automated system to find, but most are clear, widely known musician names. See below. What can be done?

I manually refreshed all metadata for Albert Collins. Recent portion of emby server log attached, along with starting and post-refresh screengrabs. FINALLY, after 10 minutes and multiple browser refreshes, I see the artist image for him. But the previous 1-hour long full refresh of the metadata for the whole music library did not retrieve images for any other artists.

Again, it works for individual artists. Emby just retrieved a lovely photo of "Aaron Copland" and displays it properly in Artist and Album Artist views.

OK good, so we'll look at higher level refreshes for the next release. Workaround for now is refreshing for single artists.

That's a real problem as I have close to 1000 artists in my catalog. I can't be the only person who found your server didn't retrieve many artist thumbnails, surely?

This server could not prove that it is musicbrainz.emby.tv; its security certificate expired in the last day. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer's clock is currently set to Saturday, April 30, 2022. Does that look right? If not, you should correct your system's clock and then refresh this page.

Yes, we tested this before. Manually for one artist at a time, this works, but no overall music library scan nor music library metadata refresh works properly for the entire library, and I believe you flagged this for addressing soon - just bumping it to encourage attention from the Emby team:

Hi, I've only applied the workaround for addressing at the library level, so that you can do a manual refresh of the entire library.

But that still doesn't answer the question of why didn't you get an image in the first place, and to determine that we'll need to look at a specific example when the music and artist are first imported into your library.

@Luke I am afraid I don't understand - what wasn't complete above in my bug report? Here's another example. I recently added this Jelly Roll Morton album to my library, the first by him in my library. And once again, no "Album Artist" nor "Artist" image was retrieved when the album was added, although all other metadata was added/retrieved correctly.

After putting those music files in my Music Library hard drive directory, from the Emby server homepage, I did a Scan Library Files (which is how the album was added to my library), but this apparently did not lead to Emby downloading the appropriate Album Artist nor Artist image. What other information do you need to debug this?

All I know is you don't have an image for that artist. I don't know why and there could be any number of reasons for that.

@Luke I'm sorry to report whatever you did to try to get manual rescan and download of Artist/Album Artist images to work hasn't succeeded. See below, which is the results after a more than two-hour session of Refresh Metadata for my whole Music library. And I just DM'd you my Emby server logfile.

@wordlover you've highlighted Belly here with the mouse so let's use that as an example. You've got Fanart and AudioDb checked as sources for artist images.

If you use the metadata editor on Belly, do they have a musicbrainz id? This id is needed to match the artist on fanart or audiodb. What metadata providers are enabled on the library, and in what order?

Here are my metadata settings, and I included my image fetcher settings above. But for Belly BOTH the MusicBrainz and TheAudioDB fields are empty (see further below). That seems to be the problem - even on a simple, unambiguous artist name, Emby isn't correctly identifying/matching many, many of those names with either of the selected databases.

OK I do see why in some cases when refreshing the album or parent folder, that the artist metadata doesn't get refreshed along with it. Thanks.

Does this mean a fix is in the works for an upcoming server update?
