Teredactle 37 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Hi, I've created a Video and Photo library, added (in this order) a bunch of folders: 2019 2020 2021 2022 2018 January 2018 February When click on this library, and selected FOLDER view, I cannot sort it. The 2018 folders are at the end, just like above, instead of being listed first, before 2019,2020, etc. Why is that, why is it not working? Running emby server on Windows, version 4.6.7 portable. Thanks
Luke 42079 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Hi there, what sort order do you have selected in folder view?
Teredactle 37 Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 I tried both Sort by Filename as well as Sort by Title, both up or down, it changes nothing it's stays like this no matter what.
Luke 42079 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 If you use the metadata editor to edit them, do they have sort titles defined?
Teredactle 37 Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 The same library, accessed via EMC, and sorted by Name, is actually sorted correctly and in alphabetical order as one would expect 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022...
Luke 42079 Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Can you show the complete screenshot rather than a cutout? Thanks.
Teredactle 37 Posted March 20, 2022 Author Posted March 20, 2022 What do you need to see exactly - the cutout was to show that they are not sorted, but i can capture more info if you let me know what it should also show.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 Not sure as I don't see this behavior. Title and File Name sort the same in correct order. Added TEST folders just to make sure. How old is this portable?
Teredactle 37 Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) That is a great idea/suggestion. I have, and it lists the new folders at the end. Basically it takes the order of the different folders, as added to the library and lists them in that order. Neither sort by File Name or Title (in either direction changes anything). I also tried clearing cache/data in the browser. Nada. Portable is 4.6.7.0, but there is something very wrong with it, I am also having issues with one of the users not having the search work nor being able to see anything that's been favorited, not to mention just constant issues with metadata. One day I see all the posters, the next day I see squares of different colour for all my movies. I'd just like to know how reliable this portable is, really I feel there is a problem with that. I'm not opposed to an install, but I saw it and figured why not. At this point I've spent more than 10 hours on this, I'd say more than half that time it's been trying to figure out why things aren't working as expected... Edited March 21, 2022 by Teredactle
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 I have no issues with my portable stable and beta A:\Emby-Server Y:\Emby-Server I ask the age of your portable as things have changed over time and with database changes odd things like this have happened. If you created a new library with a new path and moved the content to this new folder do you get the same results? If it works then you have some database quirks.
Teredactle 37 Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 This is my folder structure: C:\EmbyServer\embyserver-win-x64-4.6.7.0 and there I have the programdata and system folders. As to age, I'm not sure how to get that, I downloaded it from the Windows downloads page (https://emby.media/windows-server.html), what around 2 weeks ago, maybe less. I'd hate to do a reinstall, but could do it, as I'm much more familiar and likely to get it done super fast - but not to end up with the same thing/problem... is there no way to check what's happening, I PMed a log file last week about the user issue and never heard back on potential issue(s) causing the user problem I am having.

All I can suggest is the new path/new library to see if you get the same results but would expect the same on such a new install. I just know I have yet been able to reproduce your issues. I will test a new portable with my existing library to see if I get different results.
Teredactle 37 Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 I installed emby from the installer and I'm having the same issue. What I've noticed, is that in the installer The SSL port is now 8920, as I see a lot of posts reference, in the portable it's 8989 (likely this may give you a reference to its date) I can no longer add folders via mapped drives to a library Nevertheless, here is my library of added folders. Note that again the sorting is not working and all are listed as you can see added above...

By new library, do you mean just to create another Video+Photo library with the same fodlers and see if it will fix the issue? New path I have tried, I added new folders, and they were still unsorted., I will try both at the same time, new path and new folders...

But still can not replicate this.
Teredactle 37 Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 New library, with new folders/new path. This is very discouraging...
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) @LukeHow are attached folders Sorted? Would appear order added. I was not testing attaching multiple folders. I am testing parent folder containing these folders. So I assume attaching c:\temp will do what you are trying to do. But looking at a library with attached folders I see what you mean. Unsortable So you can sort content not attached library folders. Edited March 21, 2022 by Happy2Play
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 21, 2022 Solution Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Testing my theory is correct. Order of folder added is order displayed for attached library folders. Shut down Emby and changed order in options.xml for library <PathInfos> <MediaPathInfo> <Path>C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Kids Movies</Path> </MediaPathInfo> <MediaPathInfo> <Path>C:\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Movies - nfo</Path> <NetworkPath>\\PRODESK\Users\Media\Desktop\Videos\Movies - nfo</NetworkPath> </MediaPathInfo> </PathInfos> Started and did library scan order changed as shown in previous post Edited March 21, 2022 by Happy2Play
Teredactle 37 Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Wow, ok, well this sucks; but I appreciate working with me to get this figured it out. I only added a few folders to test, but manually I want to add a bunch of top level folders, so now if miss one (and I've added 10 let's say) I need to remove all 10 and then readd in order. And no way to sort the folders added in the library setup (add folder prompts). >>what XML file are you editing, I may choose to do edit this instead, seems much easier! Well this solves this then, behaviour as designed, although I think you guys need to fix this in future releases, whichever is easier, a function to sort properly in the display, or a function to sort/move folders in the library setup. Now, onto my other issue, a user where search function and favorites function doesn't work... Is either the search function or/and favorites function tied to/dependent on a specific setting for a user?? Thanks!! Edited March 21, 2022 by Teredactle

Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Dev still should comment on this as the UI is presenting these via Folder View.

This should be updated. Thanks.
