Playback on firestick 4K stopping and starting

Recommended Posts

Hi I am having a problem with playback on a Firestick 4K. It is direct streaming a show while at the same time my wife is watching a different show on her BDP s3700. The server seems to be loafing along with CPU usage below 20% and mostly around 2%. All drives are at 0 to 1 percent.

The show will play for about 30 seconds and then stop for a minute or two, then play another 30 seconds or so repeat. I noticed in the dashboard that the time counter in the display for the firestick device will count up 5 seconds or so and then go back to where it was and start counting up again and loop on that.

This started happening today somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 PM.

Thanks for any help. I have no idea why this is happening.

Well it figures. Ran without a hitch all afternoon.

At least I know what log to send when it happens again.

If the CPU and Disk I/O are not loaded - then it's likely to be Wifi issues.

Check the channel you are using and try to move to one which is not being utilised.  Even if the channel if 'free', move it anyway, as it's possible the channel you are using has interference from outside sources, such a microwave or other device.

That makes sense. I have wondered about that but have not pursued it because I generally  only have one thing streaming on the wifi at a time. The streaming BD players are hooked up to wired connections and my nearest neighbors are 1/4 mile away. I do have a couple of Iphones and a weather station though. Madly googling to try to find out how to check wifi performance on the firestick.

Oh. Also the firstick in question is about one and a half feet from the router.

Will do. As soon as it happens again. I has been behaving itself lately.

I am actually happy about that though it is frustrating to not be able to duplicate it. It has been happening periodically aver the past few months but has been intermittent so I haven't bothered to report it until now.

That would be great, thanks.

I have been playing the same series every day and so far it has chosen to behave.

Thanks again for your support.

I tend to watch intermittently while I am doing other things so I thought that might have something to do with it, but I have not changed the way I watch.

I might play for 5 minutes, then pause for 10 or 15 minutes, then play for 10 minutes, pause for 5 minutes, repeat.
