Nothing showing up under favorites in Home

I've favorited a few videos from the Photo/Video library.

When I go to Home, nothing show up under Favorites.

Furthermore, when I'm in Home and do a search for a key words, there is nothing coming back.

Are these known issues, or are there some user settings for both search and favorites that I'm missing here?

Weird that I can't edit my post.

So there is some weird issue with 1 user. I have 3 users in total; the other 2 users, Favorites works, and so does the search.

However, 1 particular user neither the Favorites function nor the Search works.

Edit post is do to forum status it will changes as you post more.

Can you post a server log.  But yes this odd to only happen to one user.

Does the same happen it you created a NEW user?

I just created a new user, same thing is happening. Very strange. I'll also say that I installed the "statistics" plugin, and if I select "per user" statistics, the user with the issue (as well as the new one - after running the schedule statistics) shows 0 for every statistic, while the other 2 users have statistics. Also installed the disk space plug in, which is great btw, and disk space is fine.

So, I'm ok with posting part of the server log that is pertinent to this, but not ok with providing a listing of my whole library; can you please advise how I can do that.

Known issue in 4.6, but resolved in new layout in 4.7.

Starting to sound like some sort of database issue.  Can you please attach the Emby server log from when you attempted to mark a favorite for one of these users?

I deleted the database file as well as everything in the cache folder, restarted and still the same issue(s) persist. Short of taking on a full reinstall I understand there is no way to help me without this log file but as mentioned, I'm hesitant on dropping a log file and sharing out my full library - which I consider private information.  If there is any way I can troubleshoot without this I am open to it.

On a side note, is the only portable installation for v4.6, I did not see an option for a portable install for v4.7 (which resolves some issues with the new layout as mentioned further above).

You can PM your log to Luke and/or me but the log does not "share your full library".  It will just give us some diagnostic information to try and figure out what is happening.

Are you sure you favorited a video and not a folder?  @Lukeis favorite limited to video and audio?

Yes, im sure because i favorited the same video with my admin user, and it shows up under favorites, but not with the user I'm having issues with. Same goes with the search function.

I checked settings and I don't find any way to restrict a user to see a favorited item - where is this setting.

I don't believe this is the issue as the search also doesn't turn up anything which is the other issue with this user.

This would be Users Access tab and Parental controls tab.

Does the user still see the items in the libraries?

No limitations on Parental controls. Users Access is for that particular library and no other library and can see everything in the library (all under those folders added).

However, nothing will show up in favorites even though several videos have been favorited. The search also turns out nothing, like search is turned off.

Unless devs see something in pm's log I am out of ideas.  As I cannot reproduce Favorite or Search issue.

Hi.  I wonder if that is maybe the determining factor.  If you temporarily give this same user access to all libraries, do the items show up?

You've helped very much for me to figure out the issue with this!

See my folder structure, from top level

• FAMILY-PICTURES
  • JAN
  • FEB
  • MAR

I have defined two VideoPhoto libraries below with following folders (reference above structure).

1. ALLPICTURES - added top level folder FAMILY-PICTURES
2. REMOTE - added specific folders, FEB and MAR

User with Favorites and Search issue, only has assigned library #2 above, and not allowed #1 (unchecked). So here we are seeing a permission issue, because those folders belong to library #1 to which this user is denied access, and looks like it trumps search/favorite permissions for library #2.

Is this normal/expected? I think "no". If I have access to see all the media in the assigned subfolders, then Favorites and Search should also work for that media. The permissions are inconsistent for Search/Favorites and likely a design oversight here?

So to be clear:

• assigned user other movie libraries; search returned results only from that movie library but still not from REMOTE; favorites still not showing favorited video (that is available to be seen in REMOTE library)
• assigned user library ALLPICTURES, search working, favorites showing favorited videos.

@Luke could you please chime in on this and possibly offer a solution? I don't want to move off 4.6.xx because some of my family is still using WMC and being able to use the plugin is important.

Okay, so that is the problem.  Emby does not support multiple libraries pointing to the same locations.  If you want to setup these types of libraries, you will need to structure them in the file system so that they don't overlap.
