How does Emby Connect actually work?

Hi All

well as the title says how does Connect work and what does it do? I am new to Emby and have installed to App on a firestick and placed the server on an old PC for now. Everything works fine so I want to upgrade to premier and pay the lifetime subscription. This will however only happen if I can log into my server remotely because I work away from home. If i go to the Emby website and log in, not from the server, I log in ok but I then get the two folder icons. One wants me to add a server and the other is log in using Emby Connect. If I do this it just goes no where apart form back to the log in page.

I did see somewhere that the server owner has to accept a request for a Connect user?? Is that correct? I am the only user. I am sure this is something really easy for you experts to answer.

Thanks

Ian

Nope, it's actually opposite, a User has to confirm Connect account link (received by email) that server admin (optionally) linked in Settings>Users tab.

As for the rest, have a read here:

Hmm, well it's as clear as mud to me. Is this actually saying that I need to create a new account as a "User" even though I have an account as a server owner? There is only me and me alone that will use this. All I want to do is take the Firestick with the App on it with me when I'm away and also have remote access, via a laptop, to the server from time to time remotely. I'm sure this isn't difficult

You being a server owner (nor any user on your server (if they existed) unless you link them to a Connect account) have nothing to do with Connect by default, as it is completely optional feature, those (both you and your users) are all local users which you might or might not want to expose. In your case, just input email or username you're using to login to Emby Community (this forums) in "(Optional) Emby Connect" field for your user.

Having Connect account linked is NOT pre-requisite for you to connect remotely, you can do it without it just as well. Think of Connect as sorta DDNS, where you don't have to know address (IP) of your server when connecting remotely.
