thunderclap 52 Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 I run Emby on Unraid and am having a little trouble with HDR content. Generally speaking, HDR works as expected, however I've come across an issue with an older Roku Streaming Stick, the 3800X. The devices max resolution is 1080p and has no HDR support. Okay, not a big deal, because when a person with this device tries to watch a 4k HDR movie it transcodes to 1080p. However this is where the trouble starts: the tone mapping is wrong and the picture is washed out. I assume if the server is transcoding the 4k HDR content to 1080p it should be also be converting the HDR to SDR. Is this correct or am I mistaken? If it should be doing this then does anyone have any ideas how to correct it? Enable HDR tone mapping is enabled for hardware acceleration only, and I have QuickSync set as the preferred decoder/encoder under Advanced. Also, I have /dev/dri configured properly and working in Unraid. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Please post the server and ffmpeg for an example played from this device. But the issue is being looked into as it was reported here. But dev may want an app log also as ebr referenced in that topic earlier.

That's actually my post you linked to and I reached out to ebr in a private message since I was providing info on Emby beta related to that issue. He doesn't seem to think it's a Roku issue and asked me to post here. Attached are two files, both using the Emby beta app. One is using the default Auto PQ option, the other when I set the PQ to 720p. Luke 42078 Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Hi @mbuhmann how have you configured the tone mapping option in Emby Server transcoding settings?

Luke 42078 Posted March 7, 2022 Posted March 7, 2022 Does your hardware on on the server support tone mapping? What GPU do you have?

Solution thunderclap 52 Posted March 7, 2022 Author Solution Posted March 7, 2022 So the good news is it isn’t Emby. When I converted the file it appears to have encoded wrong. Apologies. 1
