@Gilgamesh_48-  Apologies again!

Accepted. :)

I still do not understand the "belt and suspenders" obsession of many software developers. Even in the case of regressions it really seems that keeping logs three years old is overkill for all but a tiny subset of cases. I do not think protecting against a 1 in 10000 chance is worth any extra space at all.
But I am not a developer of this system and i guess I cannot judge every case. It seems to me that one year is more than enough and even just 6 months would only be a problem in about 1 out of 5000 cases.

There is a tendency in software development to be vastly over protective of possible long term errors. Anything that does not show in 6 months is, most probably, not particularly important anyway.

Have a good day. Oh, Happy October.

From experience, it happens several times per month that I read a logfile that is older than a month and it happens several times per year that I'm reading logfiles which are one or more years old. I also have a collection of 4000 downloaded ffmpeg logs since March 2019, on which I'm doing searches for certain things, sometimes also looking at the frequency of occurrence over time.

These are facts. This is part of my work, not an obsession.

@softworkzI won't dispute the need to go back to older data for the sake of comparison and whatnot, however this is more a case of the needs of the few risking the benefits to the many.  It might make sense to see if these attachments/logs can be off-boarded and stored in a separate repository that any support/development member might have access to.

It's an operational need. Anyway, I think that we should be well able to add some more storage to the server.

Maybe the log files should be automagically deleted after a month or two. By that time any real usefulness from log attachments would be effectively nil as, most of the time, the server would have jumped a version or three.

Good suggestion, but we need to keep at least one year just in case someone need them.

When wil we have the new editor version? Then I can look into creating an editor-plugin for cleaning up colors. Since I've already created one (for the ## links), it should go quickly.

The mod's team agreed to give time for the new build that coming in 2025, so updating our build to it will delay till we insure all fine.

We already had one, but somehow broke with latest update.

If you have one already for this forum build, it will be great to have. Then I will remove the one we used and replace it with yours. Thanks.

@softworkz I understand the need for old logs, already owner of Emby agreed to have more storage option, but still some consideration for reduce the space need it as well.

Of course I don't, will have to create something. Currently we have version 4.21.0 of the editor as far as I can see and I assume that the next update will have version 5.x included, right?

Since they are writing:

...it might be a wasted time to develop some thing for v4.x at this time.

As said, I would go for larger files like greater than 5 or 10MB.

Another question is: would you just delete the file from storage or also from the forum posts?
Because if forum posts would change, Google might detect that change and consider all those pages as "recently updated", which might affect its relevancy calculation, and those old posts might get higher ranked in search results than they should.

That what we doing at the moment.

All it done within the forum backend (ACP), so it will removed from the folder/posts.

Images will stay, we will not remove it, but some video we will (these for someone upload sample for problem explain or report), as we will go to these zip/rar files that old (most of them either logs or tolls that not work any more, again consideration we will do before delete it.

BTW, we start from early 2012 to like 2019, then 2020-2022, the small files if you combine the total size are huge, when I done with these, I will stop.

Just for the info, from early 2012 to 2013 Luke was doing like 5-10 versions build a day, and we were testing these and replies with logs and a like, so imagine the files size there :)

Hey Abo, did this process happen to impact threads like this one where the attachments have all gone missing? Only a month old.

Hi buddy,

It could be, the search for big files not always prefect on the core, and due to needed reduce the storage size, sometimes mistake happens.

Sorry about that.
