Metadata Fetchers only grabs 3 actors

Hey guys, I have what hopefully is an easy problem to solve.

I feel like something has changed, like it didn't always used to be this way, but literally every movie on my server only shows 3 actors, a director, and some writers in the metadata.

I remember previously it would show me every actor that was accredited in the movie.

I searched high and low looking for settings to adjust in metadata fetchers like a cap on the number of actors to scrape or something but I can't find anything.

In the library section I did see where you can choose the primary metadata fetcher to use; The Open Movie Database and TheMovieDb.

And this may be another bug to report but I can't switch the order. I can only check on or off each fetcher.

However I did try switching them off one at a time and refreshing the metadata but I get the same results; 3 actors, a director, and 1-3 writers.

Oh and another apparent bug I think I found while trying to solve this is under the Movie Image Fetchers section there is a Fetcher Settings button that doesn't appear to do anything when I click on it, but I was hoping there would be a similar button under the primary Movie Metadata Downloaders section and that might have the setting I was looking for to adjust the number of actors scraped.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, this is common with omdb which is one reason why moviedb is the default. Why do you think you can't change the order?

Hi Luke, thanks for reaching out and responding so quickly!

Looks like I ran into another issue that's computer specific.

Something similar happened to me a while back where the UI wouldn't work properly and it was because of an external keyboard I was using or something weird.

Regardless, I tried on a different computer this morning and I was able to change the order of the fetchers and I was able to successfully click on the fetcher options button for the images and that's all working, so no bugs there.

However, even after switching the order of fetchers and refreshing metadata and rescanning the libraries I'm still seeing only 3 actors, 1 director and 1-3 writers for all my movies.

I even tried just unselecting the omdb as an option and just using solely the moviedb and again refreshing metadata and rescanning libraries and it doesn't seem to be pulling in any additional actors/metadata.

Hi, we'd have to look at a specific example. Maybe that's just all that's available. Did you check MovieDb?

Hi Luke, no I wish that were the case, but it's literally every movie in my vast collection. Take for example the movie Alien.

The moviedb link: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/348-alien

Shows 10 different cast members.

Here's what it looks like in my Emby:

And here's the library settings:

Please attach the emby server log from when you refreshed metadata. Thanks.

As you can see you currently have what OMDB provides.

But yes a server log showing the refresh should show what is happening.

Here's the log file. I tried to truncate it to just the most recent events.

Let me know if this is the information you're looking for.

Also, I thought it may have had something to do with running a VPN so I disconnected that and tried refreshing the metadata again and it's still just the same 3 actors showing up.

Thanks for the additional insight Happy2Play. Definitely looks like it's only using the OMDB fetcher then, so we need to figure out why it's not using TMDB.

Not seeing any provider queries with the item Refresh.  Only thing I can think of is Emby Cached data.

Can you go to C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\cache\tmdb-movies2 and delete the folder with id "348" and Refresh the movie again?

Or possibly try Identify on that movie?

Fellas I got it!!!

The whole problem was that I have sub libraries of movies for major categories but I also have a library with all of my movies.

Well that library with all the movies still had the OMDB fetcher as the primary.

So I went through all my libraries and switched off the OMDB and prioritized TMDB and refreshed and BAM!

I'm a happy camper.

Case closed guys, thank you so much for your help I really appreciate it.
