Content showing up Multiple times on "continue watch"

Hi Guys,

I have been messing around with my media a bit. Recently started to create STRM files. I noticed since doing that Im starting to see content pop up multiple times on continue watching. I have attached a screenshot of what I am seeing. When I look at the content individually, I see that one is the STRM, 2ns is the 4k version and last is the one I was actually playing. Is there anyway to stop this?

You can use Emby's Multi-versioning feature in either of three ways:

1) Put all versions in same folder and name them accordingly:

Emby Movie Naming : Emby

2) Manually merge on multi-select

3) Use community-made plugin:

Automatic version grouping for movies - Plugins - Emby Community

Note that if your versions are spread across multiple folders/libraries, only 3) will do.

Thanks for the info, took a quick look at the plugin. Just a question, would this mess up the positions of my movies? for example would my 4k version be mixed in with my 1080p version of the movie? I have a library for my 4k and 1080p, hope that's not the case?

Your library structure (and filefolder structure) will remain intact, plugin acts on db only, you'll only get version dropdown selector in any version detail screen and single instance in Continue Watching row.

In a multi-version environment, the client is selecting the best version so if you change clients it may change versions.  But watch is not track by a specific version as you have seen, it is tracked by providerid meaning they are all the same.

That is the drawback of this method as Theater and Director cut are the same also.  So watching one will mark all no matter where they exist.

So if I am understanding this correctly. Im still going to see the multiple movies on "continue to watch" since its marking them all?

No, as stated:

Since all versions are considered same movie (due to same providerid), progress and played/unplayed status will be synced on all of them. Only one instance in CW row, though. Multi-versioning is primarily intended for different resolutions, not different cuts that H2P mentioned, and in which case there might be some discrepancies between different-cut partially watched progress, but in your case that shouldn't apply as you have them as intended, in different resolutions only. But sometimes you'll have to manually pick the version you want to watch from the version dropdown selector as default one might not be the one you wanted but the one that the server determines is the best for current client app.
