DLNA device showing on the dashboard

This is just a stupid curiosity question.

I use a Sony BDP S3700 to stream from Emby and these DLNA only devices never show up in the dashboard. I have seen them show up for an instant and then disappear, maybe a couple of times of times over the last year.

Today, one is showing up persistently.

Is this a new feature or just a glitch?

It isn't a big concern, except that it is nice to be able to see if it is direct playing or not without having to look in the logs to find out.

I am not sure if that was a statement or a question.

It is direct playing on the file that is playing now, at least the dashboard is showing that.

Yes, there is no ap for the S3700.

Guess it was just a glitch. Once I played something else, it went away and has not returned.

Yes that was a statement. DLNA does direct stream.

Now you have my curiosity up because I don't understand what you mean by direct stream.

In my mind, yes DLNA is doing a direct stream, but an Emby ap on a device is also doing a direct stream.

Is there some kind of difference that you are referring to, and does this have any bearing on whether a device shows up on the dashboard or not?

I guess what I am trying to ask is direct stream vs what?

Hi, do they show when media is playing?

Sorry I didn't see your reply until now.

I don't know. I believe that it was paused when I saw it. I have seen it once since then and I don't know if it was paused or not.

OK, with the upcoming 4.7 server release, they'll only be visible when playing anyway.

Are you saying that dlna devices will show up in the dashboard in version 4.7 by design?

Only when playing.
